I too wish Asian friends, co-workers and the staff in shops & restaurants a happy new year each February - and I get smiles in return - they appreciate the thought.

Some people have decided they choose not to acknowledge this.  The whole "war on Christmas" thing goes right along with being "against" anything or anyone different than they are. They find it threatening.

There is a lot more things to complain about than the artwork on a cup.   Not all Starbucks' customers celebrate Christmas.   What would they say if the owner this year had only Hanukah cups?

I think when people can truly share the love that Christmas is supposed to be all about and be there for their fellow neighbors who are down and out or reach out and help someone or just be loving to each other, that is more important than the design on a dam@ cup!

What about people of the Jewish faith?

Why not just say "Happy Holidays", which is inclusive, of all faiths, and of those who don't celebrate, as opposed to saying, "Merry Christmas", which is exclusive, of those who aren't Christain?

Isn't that a nicer thing to do?

Couldn't agree more. Someone called it Charbucks the other day and it's a perfect description. It's not that the coffe is too strong, it's that every time I order plain coffee, it tastes burnt. Some things are good, the coffee...not so much.

and there are people who get offended over at being told Happy Holidays

I would say that if you are unsure of someone's religious beliefs, it is best to say Happy Holidays or have a fantastic holiday!  I personally don't care, I am not religious, so it doesn't bother me when said in the spirit of things, but some people could be deeply religious and overly sensitive to that.
