I love reading reviews of product and really appreciate honest, frank reviews. They absolutely affect my buying decisions if I'm on the fence about something.
What is the deal, though, with reviewers taking away stars because an item is not to their liking, when it is EXACTLY as described?
For instance, I was just reading reviews for a Lug cross-body bag. One reviewer took away stars because it has too many pockets. Another took away stars because she wishes it were an east/west orientation, when it’s clearly a north/south orientation. It’s not the item’s fault if the buyer purchases something that is clearly and accurately presented, and the buyer simply doesn’t like it.
Same with clothing. If something doesn’t look good on you, say so and why, but it’s not fair for that to affect the # of stars, if the item is as described. “This top doesn’t look good on me, so I’m giving it 3 stars” is of zero use to anyone. OTOH, “I am returning this top, because the color is not as presented” or “I am not keeping this sweater because there are pulled threads” or “it pills after washing” IS helpful to others, and the star rating should reflect that.
If, however, something is NOT as stated, then that’s a problem. For instance, on that Lug bag, the presentation states it will accommodate a large cell phone. Reviewers beg to differ, and THAT’S a valid reason to deduct stars. Of course, if something is defective, that’s another reason.
Please, all, be candid in your reviews, but be fair & honest at the same time. They help us all make educated purchasing choices.
And, while I’m on my soapbox, I also wonder about reviewers that state that something is clearly defective, and then complain about having to pay to ship it back. If you get ‘hold of customer service, they will ALWAYS send you a postage-paid label to return a defective item. While it is true that you now have to take something to the post office or UPS, you won’t be charged.

There are many flaws in QVC's review system. It is perhaps the most flawed I've ever seen. The whole thing needs to be revised and inappropriate reviews not even published. Apparently the person who reviews them is told to approve everything except perhaps pornography.
@Calgal2too You can schedule a pick up of any Q return using the pre-paid label on the USPS website.

You are too kind. I've also seen reviews that make me wonder if that person even understands the concept of "reviews". Some reviews just don't make any sense at all.
I agree with @Kachina624 that the system is flawed. However, you have to take the bad reviews with a grain of salt, unless they are making a valid point.
Personally, iMO, the number of stars isn't nearly as important as the actual comments.

@Calgal2too Agree on all. Frustrates me as well, as I too look to reviews to find out many things, oftentimes hosts fail to inform us of. (cough...their job, but that's another discussion)
Also a frustration..."I LOVE the color!!!"...then fail to say what color they bought. sigh. Sometimes I'm really trying to pick a color and can be influenced with some description of a particular one and why someone loved it.
Sizing...some people are GREAT at this, and it's helpful to know someone is for instance: 5'2", numeric size 4 or 6 or whatever, got the S...it ran true to size. Instead of just telling me, "it's true to size!" with no reference I can compare myself to.
One that was rampant this year: Taking stars away for poor shipping or packing of an item. I mean sometimes, I get it...if a glass item arrived broken due to poor shipping, you may want to know that and decide not to take the chance and trouble of shipping back etc. But if shipping was delayed. No. But I've seen people give one star for an item because it took too long to get to them.
And yes...FOREVER QVC has always reimbursed return ship costs for "defective" product...AND they've been very generous in "broadening" the term "defective" for all kinds of instances, in my experience. Call customer service, they will likely help with anything like that. If you 'get the wrong person" ie. someone who won't help, doesn't seem like they care...call again...the next one will likely be different. (that also shouldn't be, but that's all in the training and the type person they've hired for the job...it happens, but seldom.)
Ok my rant done on this.

I did not know that! Personally, I don't mind going to the PO or UPS, if I have a prepaid label and can just drop something off and run (I can walk to both of those places), but I know that, for others, it's not so simple. Probaby they know about the pick-up option already.
It would be difficult to moderate reviews and decide what's pertinent and what's not. I think that's why anything (short of offensive/abusive or outright misinformation) goes. I agree with that philosophy.
I also wonder about 'reviews' from buyers who state they never received the item, and, therefore it warrants a single star. How can you review an item you never received? If there's a problem with an order going missing, the review system is NOT the place to resolve it.

@Calgal2too One nice thing about the pick up service is that they email you a receipt so you can prove it was mailed. "Hit & run" at the post office you get no proof and anyone could pick it up.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but when I do I try and think of what I would like to know. Is it true to size and color ? Is it well made and worth the price ? If it's a home item are the dimensions as stated and is assembly required.
