You may want to try moth balls. I have chipmunks & squirrels. Mothballs seems to work for now & seem to be a cheaper fix. And last a while.
Also, get a pinterest. There are a ton of ideas on there. Then you can read up on several ideas & see what works for your situation.

I can sympathize and empathize with you as an animal lover. And my sister also has an issue regarding squirrels.......she feeds the neighborhood squirrels and has grown fond of them....she puts food out for them and gives them peanuts and they eat out of her hand.....her cat watches the squirrels by looking out the window...and doesnt harm or bother them in anyway........ However, her feeding the squirrels has generated another problem with a different kind of rodent.....field mice....which have invaded the property where she lives because of some home building in the area.......and hence the dilemma---if she calls an exterminator to get rid of the mice might also mean the demise of the squirrels......and it breaks her heart....she is in a dilemma as to what to do.....so she temporarily stopped feeding the squirrels and tried some home remedies to try to get rid of the mice.....but it hasn't been too successful...she's trying to figure out a humane solution to the mouse problem without hurting either species.....but now other tenants are noticing mice and complaining and want the matter resolved.....Its a sad situation because she doesn't want to see the squirrels harmed but wants the mice to go away...... her cat seems to know the difference between the two he pounces at the mice through the glass, but ignores the squirrels........
Good luck Lilac Tree in finding an amicable and humane solution!!!! And I hope my sis does too.....
Years ago we had a field mouse coming in and out of the house. My father put down a regular kill trap and we did indeed get the mouse. Thing is, it was adorable. Black and white, very fluffy, and I cried my eyes out!! I don't like to kill things.
I'm not as bad as my youngest daughter though, who won't even swat a fly or put out an ant trap. And now that my daughter has Lyme Disease that is destroying her health, I don't think much of insects either.

I use pure oil of peppermint to repel rats and mice and it works like a charm and is cheap! It smells good: I don't see why it wouldn't work on squirrels.
I read an interesting article a couple of weeks ago about how everybody lives in fear of terrorists getting to our power grids: to date, squirrels have caused far more power outages!
I've also been reading lately that many car owners are suffering the same fate you are with squirrels making nests and chewing wires. This must be "the year of the squirrel"!

I live in a neighborhood over run with squirrels and rabbits. The squirrels dig up tulip bulbs, tear up my pots burying peanuts one of the neighbors feeds them. The rabbits nibble on my plants - I am now unable to plant winter pansies because they eat them . Most of plants in my yard have bites out of them. I would be happy if someone would get rid of them.
I have also had a very expensive nest in my car but that was mice.

In my world, squirrels are rodents, and rank at the top of my list along with deer. My family and I have dealt with their destruction, and do not think they are cute.
Hopefully, your apartment manager will get someone to trap and relocate the squirrels into a more friendly environment.
My advice is to leave the handling of predator urine to a professional! This is potent stuff, and while it will scare the squirrels into thinking a predator is in their territory, it will also lure that predator right to your doorstep, looking for a female of his species. The squirrels will be much easier to deal with than a hormonal and aggressive fox.

I agree, as kids we had all kinds of critters for pets---in addition to cats, dogs, birds fish we also had hamsters and yes mice from the pet shop..... I do think squirrels and mice are cute (and I understand they can chew wires and cause fires and the negative stuff).....but I will take them any day over insects or any creepy crawly things ..... wolf spiders and the big roaches (carry diseases) we have here in Texas, scorpions (poisionous-), fire ants (bites are painful and they can cause destruction---invaded my home came down through my attic had to call an extermiantor) ), big wasp problem in my neighborhood etc etc........ARRGGGHH!!!

@DiAnne YES!!!! They are so distructive!!! Last spring they dug up every potted plant(s) I planted.... and one year I spent hours planting bulbs and they dug all of them up.. I quit planting much anymore now. something I love to do I can not do because of THEM.. I HATE THEM.

I certainly agree with that. It's often said when the planet dies, insects will still find a way to survive. Can you imagine what kind of creature they could evolve into? EGAD!!!

There are many squirrels that share my piece of land and my trees. However, they can be quite a nuisance. Last year I paid a visit to our animal control people and obtained some trap cages. I baited them into the cages and once contained, I gave the squirrels to my neighbor who so kindly offered to take them away...to wherever, I'd rather not know. I have done this trapping every few years to help keep the little guys under control. Otherwise I'd have a really bad problem.

Yep, wouldn't surprise me if insects, especially those pesky roaches and fire ants elvove into the nightmares of all those sci fi movies I saw as a kid---ARRRRGGHHHH
