We live in a wooded area. Our trash can has been toppled two times in the last month.

Just today in broad daylight I looked out my kitchen window and a skunk was running

around. This is unusual to see. Hope he went on his merry way.

I keep a  loaded 12 gauge shotgun beside my bed.    If I look outside and hear or spot coons, skunks, cayotes, or any other nusance critters rummaging through my garbage cans,  I will fire a couple rounds and try to kill them. No bears or deers around here.

Re: Spring is here and so are the critters

My day of spring weather produced 2 fat Bumblebees and a Hornet that got in my hair for a second.  All in my house!

They all made it outside but I had my neighbor get the Hornet.Smiley Tongue

Re: Spring is here and so are the critters

Bears have been very active in southern WV for a month now.   They came out of hibernation hungry, and have to forage for food this time of year.

Since there are no berries, the bears are digging for roots, looking for beehives, small animals, roadkill, and any form of human food.   We keep our trash inside the garage until Friday morning; my husband sets it out about an hour before pickup.

Early yesterday morning, there was a skunk in our yard.

LATER, there was a POSSUM walking around outside!!! UGH!!! Those things are so sickening!

  I couldn't believe it because I thought they're nocturnal.

Because of undeveloped field and a green belt, lots of critters here even though its in the suburbs----

Happy to report that Mr.Skunk has moved on....even with closed windows his "calling card" seeped into our homes...

We had a huge buck walking down our sidewalk.......

One evening I spotted a racoon on my neighbor's roof.....

The paper wasps are back in full force.....

Had a couple of Humming birds stop by, but because of the wasps cant risk putting up a feeder because it attracts the wasps and those feeders with wasp/ant protection don't work..

The cardinals, blue jays, mockingbirds are active and singing up a storm..........

Enjoying all the critter stories........(except the one about shooting them....there are wildlife agencies that will trap and release them).......

Animals are reliable, full of love, true in their affections, grateful. Difficult standards for people to live up to.”

@YorkieonmyPillow

My neighbor told me to look out for this skunk that was running around in the early

afternoon. He thought maybe it has rabies because he saw it acting strangely and

also that it was out in the daytime. Scary to see nocturnal animals in the daytime.

seriously? Why can't you be responsible and store your trash properly? I keep a loaded gun by me as well.. for HUMANS that enter my home without my consent...

Yes, a black bear got into our compost heap a few weeks ago, but we have not seen him since. The woodpeckers are back to pecking on our log house and the carpenter bees have come alive and are buzzing and drilling all the old wood.I think my husband said he killed over 200 carpenter bees this year so far.

Ack! The carpenter bees drive me nuts. My old home must be delicious. I sometimes sit on my patio wth a flyswatter and play “Whack A Bee” and then I feel guilty.
