Re: Spending Less

[ Edited ]

@chessylady I don’t know about a “coming recession.”  I know I have too much and don’t need more. I’ve made an as-time-permits start on getting rid of things and plan to spend a part of each day in the new year putting things in boxes (donations) and bags (toss).

Along the the way I’m sure I will be saying, “So that’s where this is,” and “when did I get this,” and some “what was I thinking.”

I’m planning a spending fast, or at least a spending diet for 2019 and will write a list of no’s and yes’s (what I cannot and can buy) to make it real.

Here it is :   https://vva.org/donate/

You put the stuff out and they pick it up.  We donated about 30-40% of everything we had when we moved in September.   They were great.

See if they are in your area.

I've found that picking up and actually touching things helps me decide whether to keep or donate them. Often I'll look at something in the closet or on a shelf and think I should keep it. When I hold it, that often tells me that's it's time to let it go. I've been trying this recently with holiday decorations. I put out my fall wreath and holiday wreath this year. Enjoyed them but no longer felt the same way about them when I first bought them. I realized they just weren't my style anymore and put them in the donation bag. My intent is to pass these things along and have them enjoyed. I'm enjoying just having less things around and really liking what I do have around me. I'm not replacing what I donate with new things; I just want less. In the end, that saves money!
