They're around here in smaller cities and seem to be a trap for a lucrative cash flow.

One not far from the city is $500 for not making a complete stop well before a right turn.

Five hundred dollars {#emotions_dlg.scared}

It's a set-up because it's at a red light/green light controlled T stop, but if you're behind a truck and follow it through, you can't see the red light. They've made beaucoup bucks that way, but it's being challenged now.

OMG... another price cam! At least around here they aren't so exorbitant... yet... And what a set up. Sort of speaks loudly about the fact that all cameras are not based on safety but that clearly some are there as pure money making schemes...

That's good to know. One of our best friends lives on Prosperity. (Sorry, I don't remember if its road or avenue.) I'll have to ask him about other good restaurants in the area.

I shocked to see the # of people that feel it's OK to break the law. That's very telling...VERY telling. Just don't run into me.

Yea, well, maybe what you're seeing is the number of people who aren't excited about the prospect of them being touted as safety features when they're really there for a whole other purpose... And yes, perhaps it is very telling... And I'm sure no one hopes to run into anyone else...

I am fine with the cameras near a school but 20 mph is often difficult to do when someone is tailing my bumper. Apparently, some people don't care if they get a ticket. When I go through speed zones, I try and drive near the far right, so someone can pass me. I can't tell you how many times that has happened even with cameras right there recording their speed.{#emotions_dlg.blink}

wookie, I think it's an Avenue... and it used to be such a pretty, quiet, almost country lane... It's now heavily traveled as a cut through between Arlington Blvd. and Little River Turnpike, but is still a nice area... There are scads of new restaurants that have opened and will be opening in the area. Many of them sort of trendy, but probably good none-the-less... There are also some older local favorites, though while not fancy have good food... I do miss the dining options. Even though I now have all the Old Town establishments at my doorstep, just try finding any place to park to avail myself of them, and yet walking isn't always an option...

So does the 'seatbelt law' serve up the same conspiracy theories?

Spin it how ever you want, a law is a law. Of all the traffic rules/regulations out there, like I mentioned before, speeding have a VERY high 'duh' factor. Don't break the law & speed limit & you will be rewarded with no tickets. Duh.

Yes, I have heard about the traffic problems on that road. We acutally used to use the road as a cut through to visit another friend who lived in Fairfax City. I would love to live in Or near Old Town Alexandria. My sister's husband's sister lives there. Last year, my nephew came to visit from Hawaii for Christmas. He stayed with us the majority of the time, and a few days with her. When we picked him up, he said, "no offense, aunt wookie, but the next time I visit, I'm going to stay with Aunt Donna, and visit you for a few days." I laughed, and told him I didn't blame him one bit.

Old Town is pretty... and fun... and lots to do for all ages, but lots of bars and restaurants for the younger folks to enjoy, so I guess I understand too... Sort of wish I'd lived where I do now when I was a few years younger myself! But just try to cruise down King Street on a Saturday evening (it takes a while...), much less try to find a place to park! Still, I do enjoy living here. It's a bit more of an urban vibe, and yet still not really 'city' if you know what I mean...

What do you think? Clearly seat belts serve one purpose. There is very little 'value added' for jurisdictions who fine those failing to use them... There are also few citations that don't involve something else. Moreover, citations for failure to buckle belts are not based solely on a camera playing 'gotcha', since as far as I know the powers that be haven't yet... figured out a way of filming us inside our vehicles... Oh my yes, the law, the law, the law... I guess some of us aren't opposed to citing laws and the way some laws are applied that we find offensive... I'd also note, more than one jurisdiction has curtailed and modified use of cameras based on citizen feedback... Duh... Go figure...
