I rarely get spam calls--my phone automatically displays it as potential spam, and if I don't recognize the number and they don't leave a message--I delete it.

We got a better deal by adding a landline. We don't want one but if we did not have one then our bundle was more expensive.
So, we have a landline but no phone hooked up. Occasionally we will see on our smart TV a "spam" call coming in. I couldn't even tell you what our phone number is, never use it.

I am in WV, and it is my understanding these calls are allowed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. My landline has rung as early as 7:30 a.m., but regardless of the number of calls daily, I do not answer any call from an unknown number! No exceptions.
The number of spam calls has increased greatly since my husband passed, and I have dropped satellite TV as well as changed names on accounts, etc. DirecTV hounded me for weeks after I dropped their service and feel sure many of the calls I'm still getting are related to that. My caller ID shows calls from many unknown names and cell numbers, but no one ever leaves a message which tells me it's a spam call. I've been getting calls where caller ID shows a well known business name, altho it is not in this area or one I've ever had dealings with; they never leave a message. Spammers are also spoofing local numbers as soon as people drop their landline; within weeks after my mothers phone service was dropped, I received a call showing her phone number.
I choose to hold onto my landline for several reasons; I use it often to make calls, but receive very few legitimate calls on that line. What works for me is to ignore the landline until I see a message waiting.

That is so interesting. My husband belongs to a cabin in upstate PA. Several years ago he had a heart attack on top of a mountain. He slide down the mountain and fortunately a guy happened to be nearby. The guy drove my husband to the cabin. And fortunately a cabin mate happened to be there. The cabin mate drove to the nextdoor neighbor's house. And she was able to call an ambulance on her landline.
After that episode the cabin mates decided to have a landline installed in the cabin. None of their cell phones work because of the mountain behind their cabin. It took several years to find a company that would install a landline. Most companies could not believe that they wanted a landline.
And here you were @cjm61 having to have a landline installed. Maybe it will come in handy someday.

I would get rid of the home phone & use the cell phone. Since we have done that we no longer get all the scam calls. It's nice not listening to the phone ring all day with a scam or salesman on the line.
If you get rid of it don't forget to call & tell them to stop billing you for it.
My MIL got rid of her home phone several years ago. She is 95 now using her cell phone. We are glad she got rid of it. We don't have to deal with her scam calls.

I have an old Panasonic land line. It came with an option to set time of calls greatest thing ever. We were getting calls at 6 am, and one phone was by bed!!! You can set the time you want calls to start in morning, and set a time for them end at night. Our phone is probably 13 years old. Got at Costco. Came with 4 phones, pretty cheap You can also click a button to block a call you know is spam. Holds up to 200 blocked numbers. I might look into this. As a few calls come now, more and more are sure to come!!

A lot of spammers don't even live in the USA so they don't care what time it is. I've had some start between 7-7:30.
I've had someoe spoofing numbers and trying to get in touch with me. I googled the numbers and they are spam calls spoofing major banks names. One if Bank of America and the other is Chase. I guess they are spoofing me with those numbers because I have those credit cards.
Anyway, a couple of days ago I did answer one of the calls because they were calling several times a day. The guy claims he was calling from Chase, but I know they don't call. So I very unpolitely told him that I knew he was spoofing and that I wasn't giving him any information, so he shoud just give up calling me.
The calls stopped.

I suggest getting rid of the landline.
