Re: Sounds That You Heard Growing Up...

The sounds of the trolley running past our house.  The bells from the church up the street.  The call of the produce man on the wagon driven by horses.

Thanks for reminding me of the produce man - but ours drove a Ford truck.  For some crazy reason I can still remember his name, which was Raymond.

Growing up in NYC thinking back to the 60's 70's, 80's you would hear honking horns , sirens of NYPD, NYFD ,EMT, Boomboxes blasting loud  music, kids playing outside the buildings. Don't miss any of that, moved to upstate NY guess now we hear birds chirping, lawnmowers, not even dogs barking, learned to love the quiet life, but will make the best of hearing UPS or Fed Ex or USPS vehicles coming  to my home.

Our produce man did trade his horse in for a truck some years later.  Just shows you how old I am lol.  I remember the ice man delivering a piece of ice for the "fridge" and the umbrella repair man, the organ grinder with the little monkey begging for a penney, the rag man and of course the guy strolling in the alley with his accordian.  See, told ya I am old!

The sound of myMother calling up the stairs to wake us up for school , in the morning.

The sound of my Mother scraping the burnt layer on the toast . For the longest time I thought all  toast had an indent in it, instead of being flat ! ( couldn't waste food and throw it away ) LOL !

Totally. The hinges on those doors were different then. BAM!

Am I the only one here whose parents were always fighting?  I do not miss that one bit.

Shovels on the sidewalk after a snowfall
Air Raid Signal & under your desk
Train whistles
Umbrella man calling
Milk man climbing the steps & putting milk bottles in the box; I’d rush out so I’d get the cream on top first
We had a bakery that had the best buttercream icing for a bd cake. When they delivered it, a recording played happy birthday in front of your house. I kinda didn’t like it
But loved their cakes.
Church bells; I hear hymns now from the church across the street
Noon whistle

The Helms Bakery truck whistle when he drove through the neighborhood to sell his baked goods.  Yum, used to love the cream puffs.
