This song with no words, called "Leaving Hope," brings back painful memories.
On Saturday, we had a memorial for my father. My mother and I drove for hours to the town where my paternal grandmother lives, because my father had wanted to have a small service that she could attend (she is very elderly and can't travel).
Last night, as I was lying in bed trying to make myself tired, I listened to my MP3 player. When this song played, I was transported back to the events that led up to my father's death.
I was pessimistic soon after his diagnosis, but I tried to keep my pessimism to myself. My parents needed to have hope, and I had no desire to inject my pessimism into the situation.
Over a period of 8 months, I watched their hopes and dreams dissipate as the news gradually got worse.
This song, though beautiful (IMO), represents that descent.

My Dad, though he was deaf from an explosion in WW11 would sing to us all the time. One of my favorites is Mr Sandman and it always brings a tear to my eye now that he is gone. He would also sing As time Goes By often as well as Accentuate the positive. He and my Mom loved to dance and he still did as long as the music was loud enough for him to feel the beat - they often would play records and dance in the kitchen, and when they had friends over they would roll back the DR rug and dance in there. I loved watching them and their friends dance. I think children have a difficult time imagining their parents as the couple they were before they had kids.
