Something's fishy in that CA case...

The girl that was 8 years old and killed. Her and her 12 year old brother were home alone. Why would a killer leave a 12 year old alive for a witness? Also, the brother saw the guy leaving. The girl didn't scream so that the brother could hear? It doesn't make sense to me.
