Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

the pink day lily given to me one mother's day (around 2011) by my late son who died in 2013. The day we moved to Florida I dug it up, wrapped it wet paper towels and transplanted it. It thrived in our Florida flower bed for a few years. Until my husband, being overzealous with the weed whacker, accidentally killed it. Broke my heart.

My childhood roller skates that used a key to tighten them.  I have the key, but no skates, and my late 1960's-70's skateboard.  I rode that thing as a teen all over Baltimore City neighborhoods.  My son and grandson are skateboarders and man, wish I had mine!

Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

@Mersha  It's funny but the only thing that I would want back is a pair of Zodiac cowboy boots that I bought back in the 70's. They were cream with a tourquoise shaft that was carved like a Patricia Nash handbag.

I LOVED those boots and wore them a ton for years on end. I got them re-heeled many times. So comfortable and fit my feet like a glove. I'm short and the heel height actually made my back feel good wearing them. I only got rid of them about ten years ago. Why? I have no idea. LOL I guess everyone has one of those whoopsie moments. Ha.

I look for them sometimes online. Poshmark has a pair of them in all cream. Just not the same without the turquoise though.

Great thread. Thank you.

Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

The one item that I often wish I hadn't gotten rid of was a large doll-house that had been hand built by a neighbor for his daughters.  His girls got older and no longer wanted it.  He offered it to my parents for me.

He was a carpenter by trade and that doll-house was impressive. It was two floors with circular steps going to the upper level.

I played for hours decorating it and rearranging all of the furniture. But just like his daughters, I also outgrew it and passed it on to another family with young daughters.

I don't know what I would do with it today as I never had any daughters or female grandchildren.  I also moved from the the east coast to the west coast and that would have been a large item to move.

But every once in a while I'll think about that doll-house and how much fun I had with it.

Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

All my Barbies and accessories so I could give them to my granddaughter.
The soda pop dolls
My 45' best of times playing them.
A Lego Star Wars set that was our sons. It's worth a ton of money now he wanted to give it to a friend so he did. I ask his mom if they still had it, they didn't. All pieces ended up in the trash 😬

Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

The Nancy Drew books published in the 1930's and 1940's that I inherited from an aunt.  My mother sold them during a move without asking or notifying me.  I'm sure I could replace them on eBay, but it wouldn't be the same.

Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

I helped with my mom's garage sale clearing out my dad's things. My brother was alive and healthy at the time (He would be gone a year later.).

My dad had bought me a small pink and white leather stuffed elephant when I was young. I had it on a shelf in my bedroom for years, and when I left for college I took it with me. I had decided since I was married with my own home I had outgrown it.

So I put it out. The first person to show up, an older man, bought it. My brother came out, saw the man leaving with it, and said he couldn't believe I sold it. He said, "You've had that with you forever."

Of course I felt terrible. I wanted it back. I was young and I wasn't thinking about any children we would have. I just hope the man who bought it gave it to a special child!
