The answer depends on variables that were not given.

What size is the bed? A King or Cal King has 6 legs while the other size beds have 4 legs. Some beds have no legs.

The chair is on the bed because the riddle says so.

The riddle does not say that the room you walked into is the same one that has the bed in it. 

A person's legs are not on the floor, the persons feet are.

@Lindsays Grandma   I have a young niece who won't even speak to me because I have an android phone and not an apple.  Some of us don't have rich parents to buy us expensive things.

I told her when she is flush enough to gift me an iPhone she can have at it.  I am a lot of fun to communicate with and she is missing out.

@Anonymous032819   They don't have the endurance to fly as other birds do.  Chickens hovering in the air above a chair would not happen, as stated in the riddle.

Although some do play the piano.
