As some of you may know, a friend of mine was diagnosed with AML and received a bone marrow transplant recently. The marrow came from her sister, but I have to wonder what might have happened if no one in her family had been a match.
I used to be under the impression that donating bone marrow was extremely painful and would lay a person up for a good long time...I was wrong.
I found this thread on Reddit. A young woman who has just donated bone marrow to a stranger answers peoples' questions about the procedure...

Of course, many people are not able to donate because of their own medical conditions, but it's something to think about if you think you may be an eligible donor...
