@sunshine45   Soda machines started to go away in the 1970s, so you must have been born after 1980 to have never seen one. They were everywhere before 1970.  So much so, that some grocery stores had them outside even though they were selling pop inside. Every gas station had one. You name it from store to school to business professional/commercial office buildings, hospitals, and more, there was probably a soda machine on the premises.

A few years ago, I saw replicas for home use.  The replica could be plugged in to cool the drinks and one version even had a coin slot, so you could feed money into it if you wanted to go true authentic.

The one I used in the 1950's was in a country store close to my grandparents' house.

I remember those. There was one in my grandfather's brother's store. I guess they must not have got along because I only saw his brother when I ran down to his store on the corner.

I saw those in the 60's early 70's when we visited my relatives in Anderson SC when I was a kid.

Re: Soda Machine from Days Gone By

I have a Coke machine that takes a dime.  I also have the manual for it.  The door opens in the front.  My husband gave it to me in the 80's.  We did stock it with soda and keep dimes on the top but it got out of hand with the children and neighborhood kids.

It now sits on my daughter's porch miles away because she wanted it.  Very heavy to move.  I have been offered lots of money for it but at the time could not part with it.  A true antique!  I remember getting soda out of machines many times with my Dad at boat races on the river.  Always interesting to see all the models of soda machines in antique stores.

Yes, I totally remember these machines. Didn't the soda taste so good and cold in those glass bottles?

@Still Raining   If I remember correctly, I think that we may have used bottle caps for markers, when playing hopscotch.

@781Florist  Growing up just north of Boston in the 50s and 60s,

my memories are the same as yours.

We had the Coke machines with the cold water inside. I remember Middleton Springs was one of the brands of "tonic".

We also had a Coca Cola plant in our city, so their products were sold locally too. My favorite snack as a child was a little bottle of 7UP and a five cent bag of Boyd's Chips. Boyd's Chips were made in our city also, they were so good.
