That's good news.

Contrary to what some may think, the majority of seniors are not living it up with fistfuls of cash at their disposal.  With the increase in Medicare, it won't exactly enable them to go on a spending spree.

I know many seniors through my mother and they worked for years and saved what they could.

@Tessa Mendoza    yeah, but, see those that begrudge seniors don't want to give up anything. They want it all and right now and don't want to sacrifice they want all the  entitlements that the Gov. can give them.

Plus, they think that same mind set extends to everybody that can walk or come on over from everywhere.

After all to pay for those Apple phones and all the fancy things in life takes a lot of money,  plus, all that eating out. Easier to go to Walmart and sit on your rump and let them put in car for you.

Glad to hear SS is a "entitlement" my husband could have not paid in for 50 yrs and had took out of paycheck saved the cost of H&R Block to send his money to somebody else.  B S

Well of course they are and while I understand your point, unlike many other entitlements, many of those receiving them paid significantly into them over the course of many years.

@stevieb - Medicare is going up $10 per month.

Probably enough to take away 1/2 of the increase.

They are not entitlements to those of us that put money into it!!  You must be talking about those on the dole and never contributed a dime!!!

@feline groovy

Been on SS for 20 years now. Last year was the 1st year my monthly SS check reached $1300. So with $1500 being the average, and mine being over $200 less per month, what is the highest paid SS per month to those bringing the average to $1500?

My wife has been on SS for 6 years and her payment is less than my $1300. Hmmm!

@hckynut    Maximum  benefit is $3895. To receive this you need 35 years of high earnings.

Social Security and Medicare are entitlements because those who have paid into the system for the required number of quarters are entitled to receive these benefits without means testing. In this case entitlement is NOT a derogatory term.

@arrabella - they are entitlement programs because those who contributed are entitled to payments.  You posted that you worked and contributed so you are entitled to the payments.  Entitled is not always a negative term.

We didn't get a raise, we got a paycut. I guess we will have to redo our budgets.
