Based on a friends experience, they go by the date you applied....so 62 and 2 months...but the amount at 62 and 5 months won't be a huge difference. You probably need to schedule an appt to go see someone in person there. I had to do that and the person was very knowledgeable and had lots of experience at the SSA. It was well worth the hassle of driving there, but I don't know if Covid regulations have changed how they do appointments now.

If you can get an appointment I would suggest you do so. If I hadn't gone into their offices, my claim would have had several delays as part of my name was misspelled and a valid date was incorrect. How this happened I have no idea but they told me it was beneficial for the expediency of my money being sent to me. Best of luck.

You get it the month after you turn 62. You can collect early at 62 and checks are paid for the previous month.

Have you set up a "My Social Security" account on SSA.gov? If not, do that as almost all the info you need is there.
