Social Security Administration is...a mess

They made overpayments to disability beneficiaries and are now hitting them hard to recoop the monies.

Compounding problems, while some people legitimately seeking disability payments are waiting for years to receive benefits, some receive benefits inappropriately. For instance, in 2010, Social Security discovered $1.4 billion in overpayments to disability beneficiaries, most to people who no longer qualified as they were again working, said a report issued by Congress’ investigative arm, the Government Accountability Office, explained The Huffington Post. Meanwhile, two-thirds of initial applications into Social Security are rejected and the appeals process can take years to maneuver.

Whose fault is it that they overpaid? If they did their job correctly, this very well might not have happened.

They overpaid me for year that I worked and I have no problem repaying that, however, they are also attempting to collect for the 2 years after that when I was no longer working and they paid me. The fact is that I have MS and am still disabled. I reapplied this January and had to wait for the whole process again. It took until August to get benefits again. I made repayment arrangement through the local SS office and was told that all was fine. Then I received a letter 2 days ago stating that they were keeping all of my benefits for the repayment until October of 2014.

I ended up having to go to my Congressman's office to get this resolved.
