@MamaWick , Cute squirrels! I started feeding squirrels a handful of corn to keep them away from my bird feeders. But, the deer liked the corn. That's how I started feeding deer better things, and I can't now because neighbors complain.
I put out pepper suet that deer don't eat and safflower seeds they have a bevel to keep squirrels away from the bird feeder.

Be still my heart...I love little Rocket. I have a soft spot for these furry precocious sweethearts. We order 5 pound bags of Roasted Peanuts from Sam's to feed them! Thanks for the share @MamaWick

@MamaWick Hi Rocket J. Squirrel aka Rocky. So now you have both Rocky and many "Bullwinkles". Ha ha, yes I know they are technically deer, but I couldn't resist.
We put out about 15 lbs of peanuts in their shells for the squirrels and the blue jays. The jays sit and wait for my DH. He's the feeder

LOL! You gotta love the squrrels even though they can be frustrating! I have bird feeders on my patio with a cage on it and yet the squirrel finds his way inside. I also do get the super large bags of peanuts from Wild Birds Unlimited to feed them and throw on the patio. Sometimes one of the squirrels sits right there on the patio, waiting for me to put out more! LOL! And the bluejays enjoy them too!
Between feeding the birds, squirrels and I even put out food for the poor homeless kitties and then I have my kitty Bella (indoor only), I want to add them to my taxes every year as dependents! ![]()

It's one thing to accidentally feed squirrels while attempting to feed birds. But my not-very-smart neighbors feed the squirrels on purpose - every day. They live in the condo next door. And, while they weren't born yesterday, they must not be aware of how destructive squirrels can be if they get into your house,

DS put that same bird feeder out in our yard last week. At first he hung it from a fairly sturdy branch, thinking it was strong enough to support the full feeder. We looked outside to see a squirrel on top of it, swinging it back and forth while another one on the ground ate the seeds that fell out. He'd climbed to it from another limb. DS then moved it to a much smaller limb that the squirrels can't get to from the other branches. Now the birds are happy, the squirrels not so much.
