Re: So how are your investments doing?

I will never be able to afford Apple.  Smiley Sad.  It doesn't matter how much the market falls, it ain't gonna get low enough for me to afford some of my dream stocks, Apple being one. Sigh.....

Let me tell you about Apple.  Lol.  When my mom was 89 she inherited some stock, ALOT from her long time boyfriend, companion.  It was in Charles schwab only.  Her friend had had dementia last 7 years of his life and never touched it.   My mom never had stock in her life.  She invested in property, CD's or savings.  The biggest gamble she ever made was putting a large amount of money in a 5 year CD.   Lol. Anyway, when she got stock, she was not one to ever let anyone give financial advice or tell anyone anything. At 94 she started the downhill signs of Altheimers.  I took over as POA when she was in mid 90's, and she passed at almost 99.   She somehow acquired thousands of shares of Apple. My mom who believed a person would be poisoned from the emf emissions of cell phones, andnever touched a computer bought Apple.  We don't know why, or how...but she did.  ALL Apple.   It may go up a lot, then go down a bit.  Never went down as much as last gain.  This is our experience.  IDK with the virus as unfortunately Apple makes stuff over there.  But they will work it out.  I think Apple is always a good choice, if you are a stock person.

But she didn't buy at 300 for sure.  So I don't know about now.  That is for investors to figure out.  The long haul is good.  It would have to fall just below 200 to be safe I think. That won't happen soon.

Re: So how are your investments doing?

Last year in the FALL my husbands401K was down by 10 grand. Then it went up in months. Now he didnt even want to look.

And PS its not spreading panic as someone said. The virus hit China bad, world news has to do with the stocks. Just found out today, 2 friends of mine Italy trips were just cancelled for May AND June by their travel agents. Rather safe than sorry.

Re: So how are your investments doing?

I don't worry about it bc I have a planner that manages that for me - I take an income stream from my portfolio each month and I signed something giving him the ability to make sales/buys up to a certain % and if he feels it necessary to deviate more than that, I get a call.  Rarely happens.

Most of what I have in the stock market are ETFs - along with some mutual funds.  We moved to mostly ETFs years ago bc they are cheaper.

I think everyone needs to calm down and ride the wave.  It will come back.  I'm old enough to have seen this happen many times.

This virus is no different than the H1N1, and all the others that went around.  I'm not trying to diminish the severity of the virus, but we need to be vigilant about our hygiene habits and do the best we can...........and pray!

Re: So how are your investments doing?

Yep, took a $60k hit in our 401.  But we are in it for the long haul. I doubt there will be a correction in the short run. It will take some time to get it back.  And no it is not just on paper as many it seems like to say just to feel better. That is real money that was there before and is not now.  Not panicking, we are diverse in our money planning.  Just being real, as stated we are in it in for the long haul.

Corona or not I'm not surprised in the least.  It was a false and overly inflated market and I've been waiting for the shoe to drop. I switched my 401k model to conservative the first day it started tanking and I'll switch back to moderate when it begins to recover again.

Isn't this kind of a stupid question?  Or do you just want to know in a roundabout way about peoples' personal finances?
