Re: So Much for the Influenza Vaccine

Four, maybe five, people have died in WA state this flu season.  Chances of getting flu are far greater without the vaccine.

Re: So Much for the Influenza Vaccine

@Noel7 Dear Friend, I have worried about you too. and certainly hope you can pull through this illness you are fighting. My DH  hasn't been well for over a year and is now in a Care and Rehad center. Until Janauary 24th because of insuranse.

The kitties are fine, DD and her DH were and are taking care of them and they wouldn't come while they were here. You know cats!! Noel, my wishHeart is hoping you get better soon.Heart

Re: So Much for the Influenza Vaccine

I am so sorry this happened to you.  I have never had the flu, but I know it's not fun.

I recently took a family member to the eye doctor because she could not see well at all.  She had a cornea transplant 6 years ago.  She is now scheduled for another one in two weeks.

Her doctor asked her if she got a flu shot recently and she did.  He said the flu vaccine ruined her transplanted cornea.   He advised her to call him for eye drops next year before she gets the flu shot so he will not ruin her new cornea.

I never heard of such a thing and wonder why she wasn't told this before.

Re: So Much for the Influenza Vaccine

It's always a ****** shoot when it comes to the flu vax. It's a guessing game as to which flu will go around and often the vax doesn't cover that one.

My mom gets the flu vax every year and she's always sick. I never get it and I can't even remember the last time I had the flu it's been so many years.

I think there are anti-rejection drops for this.

@Mama Mia

mm I think of you often, also.  I am so sorry to hear your husband hasn't been well.  I hope there's someone to stay with you and help with things like grocery shopping and cooking.  Thank goodness your daughter was able to take the kitties.

I was in the hospital for five days in June, a bad situation but I made it and am told there are no lasting repercussions.

I am so glad you checked in, I worry when I haven't seen you around in awhile.  Love to you and your family!

Re: So Much for the Influenza Vaccine

@Mama Mia ... I'm sorry to hear you went through so much with the flu and everything.I hope you are feeling better now. I know another lady who had the flu and pneumonia vaccines and ended up in the hospital for 5 days with pneumonia.

We had it here in our house too. DH, my mother, and I all had the quadrivalent flu vaccine and both of the pneumonia vaccines. We got the flu anyway. The doctor put us all on Tamiflu, which really didn't seem to help that much. I was flat on my back in bed for 2 l/2 days  I felt absolutely weak and useless for several days after that. There seems to be a lot of crud going on around here.

Some years that flu vaccine is a good match, and other years it isn't. The doctor told me that he is seeing a lot of flu...verified by the nasal swab. I think I'll try the senior flu vaccine next year. It is 4 times stronger than the regular vaccine, but it only comes in trivalent...not the quadrivalent.

My accountant had flu shot and Prevnar 13 and got deathly sick.  She's pretty sure it was the Prevnar - I've heard bad things about that shot.  My doctor said I, at age 64, don't need Prevnar because I'm in good health.  She refused to give it to me.  My accountant was down for 5 days also (although not hospitalized), but it was her busy time of the year and she lost precious time.

@hoosieroriginal  Is the Prevnar 13 the pneumonia vaccine?  That one is new to me.

@Pandalady - yes, supposedly covers several strains of pneumonia - there are ads all the time on TV for it.
