Re: So I ordered one of those DNA/Genetic tests...

[ Edited ]

@Spurt  They can require all they want to.  My answer is I have none. What are they going to do?  Fire me because they think I have one?  Go ahead.  I'll retire wealthy.

My employer just wanted me to give out my name and social to an outside company for a background check because I run errands.  After having my personal information hacked by Blue Cross Blue Shield via my employer medical and Equifax, no one gets my personal info anymore without an incredibly good reason and that isn't one.

I told them someone else could run their errands from now on.    Not happening and it didn't!

Re: So I ordered one of those DNA/Genetic tests...

I did the DNA test thing at 23 And Me and the results were pretty much what I expected, which was disappointing. I'm so white I glow in the dark; a true WASP from all over northern Europe (although maybe that explains why I want to travel to Scandanavia).

However, I did find out that there's a tiny amount of "exotic" dna in my background, from somewhere in the South Pacific. One of these days I'm going to have a much more detailed test done to see more exactly what I'm made of.

@Spurt  High five!  I send Al Pacino's face to anyone who doesn't back off or post it online when they are being difficult.  Works like a charm.

@BirkiLady  I stopped being on FB with my real name.  It has worked wonders so far and I love it.

LOL!!!!

I've had the hots for Al Pacino for years and years. I've told my DH that if I ever have a chance to hook up with him (probability ZERO), he'd just have to understand. He just laughed

Well my employer has all their bases covered (well almost all), they require you to set up a FB account because thats where LIVE video meetings are conducted, AND they make you sign a form when you are hired that you agree to their rules, regulations, and requirements, (their salary and benefits are worth it) and you also sign a paper saying you can't sue them.....Although a friend of mine, whose brother is a lawyer, said you STILL CAN SUE THEM if the company violates a State or Federal law.....But gee I made a slight "typing error" in my name on my Facebook page.....so it's not my true name Smiley Wink .....And my employer didnt even notice that...LOL!!!  Whats funny when I get spam junk ads on FB, (or in my email, or in my snail mail with the misspelled  name), I know that it came from the FB account, and I have the toughest settings I possibly can on all accounts....Woman Frustrated  Maybe I should sue Mr. Zuckerberg as many have...hmmmmmmmmmmm

@Spurt  Smart!  That's what I would do.  Set up a shell account under a junk email or my work email and there you have it.  Fake compliance.  LOL

No surprises for me though when I did one.

how did she react when she found out? was it some deep, dark family secret?

How could she "find out her father wasn't her real father?" All they are telling you is the area of the world your ancestors came from. Certainly not enough to determine if someone was your real parent.

For Heaven's sake my Mom was of half German and half Italian decent. Her father actually was an imigrant from Italy. And yet when my DNA test came back -- I'm only 5% Italian and 8% German. Does that mean she's not my mother? Well I'm the spittin' image of her so I am darn sure she is. The information from your DNA goes back many many generations so who knows what those old folks got up to a long time ago. Back centuries ago those countries were constantly invading each other and the men would be gone for years and years. You think they didn't spread around their DNA? I'm sure they did.

Re: So I ordered one of those DNA/Genetic tests...

I was very disappointed with my DNA results. I already knew that I am part Japanese. What I wanted to know was more about that Asian part of me, like where in Asia are my ancestors. Not just a map showing me a big circle around Asia saying I am 50% of that part. Woman Tongue

@151949  They are also telling you (if you opt in) who you match to in their database of people who have also opted in.  If they are both in the database and they don't match, either there is a system/testing error or the mama may have been stepping out....

@SilleeMee  I think Ancestry DNA is the most specific as to where.  I honestly really just want the medical information.  I could care less about my ethnic background which is why I went with 23andMe.  That info will be for entertainment purposes only.
