@Biftu wrote:i had guests this past weekend who didn't stay overnight but the ten year old daughter was bored with all adult company (I don't blame her) so she went upstairs in my house to do what I don't know. When they left I went upstairs to find my desk drawers open, the storage bench where I keep off season linens must have been opened because the folded blanket on top was moved, my shower curtain was pulled back, the linen closet was slightly ajar. Who knows what else she got into. She's a sweet girl, but I guess her nickname should be Snoopy. Adults should discourage this type of behavior if there aware their children have these tendencies.
I haven't read every post, so sorry if this was already covered.
Personally, I don't think one child's boredom is the child's fault. It's the fault of the adults, and especially her parents. WHY didn't this kid bring a book ... or something to occupy them?
If we are going to have guests on a regular basis, I think it would be nice to have "something" handy that might occupy kids ... maybe a Harry Potter movie?
How about a box of Crayola 64 crayons and some blank paper from your printer? SOMETHING for younger guests would be nice, IMO.
What did you expect a bored 10 year old to do for hours on end?

@Biftu My BF has grandchildren like this. Our house is small enough that we can pretty much see what they are doing. Did catch the 9 year old snooping the last time and her parents were not pleased with her.

I would never let anyone roam around my house.
If a child got up, the parent should have gone with her.

This may be slightly OT. I am an only child. My parents NEVER got a babysitter for me. They were not go outers, and if they did I was dragged along. I always brought a book so that I would not be underfoot or be bored.

@Trinity11 wrote:Are you absolutely sure it was the 10 year old snooping? You had guests in the plural. Unless I caught the 10 year old in the act, I would reserve judgement before accusing her.
@Trinity11 I've been thinking the same thing.

@Biftu Did she steal anything? First of all she had no business going upstairs alone (her mother should have stopped her or you should have said something). Who knows what that girl was doing and it isn't so sweet.

And this is why I don't like having guests in my house, be it relatives or friends. We only have one bathroom and the bedrooms are all upstairs, so I can't very well follow everyone while they go upstairs.
My husband always begs to have his relatives here, but his relatives are always in our bedroom sprawled on our bed watching tv because there's always a ton of people talking in the living room downstairs and once his teen nephews had swiped beer and went up to our furnished attic to drink them. I found the bottles after they left.
They make themselves too much at home.
@Justholdingon Your husband shouldn't have to BEG to have his relatives visit. That's not fair. Just lock the doors to the rooms. Simple. It's also his Home!!

Maybe we should call the FBI and tell them about the 10year old. They should also investigate the parents for not checking on her after a few minutes. Was it really the 10year old?
Oh well!!

You mean none of your guests @Biftu went inside to the powder room? Without proof with a camera, I would reserve judgement. Someone key scratched my friend's car. She claimed only one person could have done it. Footage from a neighbor's camera proved otherwise.😳
@Trinity11 I didn't know people still used the term "powder room". LOL
I do agree, though, that anyone could have been the snoop.
It is a weird name .... but everyone knows what you mean when you say it! lol ![]()

What's the proper term now? Half bath? But you don't take a 'bath' in there.....sooo.....
Anyhow, I remember going to my dad's sister's house (she was much younger than my dad and so cool). They were all having cocktails downstairs and was told I could go up on her bed and watch TV. Well, back then there were only a handful of channels to watch and I couldn't find anything.
So I went in to her bathroom and got into her makeup. Had eyeshadow on, I think I used lipstick for blush, a dark brow pencil on my blonde brows and frosted lipstick.
I'd fallen asleep and when they came up to get me, they said I looked like a clown.![]()
