The phrase from the book "I wish I could have killed more," and the jealousy toward another sniper who had, is enough for me.

Wow. I haven't read the book, nor will I. Didn't realize that...statement...was in there.

My dinner mates & I were talking about this just last night. The military is a brotherhood. It's also a job for which you applied. He did his job very well...but his boastfulness is not part of the military brethren. Talking about it, writing about it, making a film about it is a very unattached, solitary action...definitely not endorsed by the true military brotherhood. Many might say, "what about Generals writing books, etc?" That's different....they are part of leadership. That's why I find it hard to single out just one veteran....there are hundreds of thousands of veteran stories out there...why this one?

Another avenue is lowering of the American flag for certain military deaths. Either it's all or nothing....the flag is lowered for every single military personnel death or it doesn't get lowered at all. Brotherhood is not a popularity contest. When your arms are locked together, it's all or nothing.

Chris Kyle's wife said this: ""Chris only wrote that book because other people were going to write it about it and he felt proper credit wouldn't be given to those he served with. He also knew he could be portrayed as something he wasn't.""

He included a lot of questionable material in the book that portrayed him in what (I hope) was an incorrect light - the truck incident, New Orleans after Katrina, not to mention the whole Jesse flap.

I think he partially portrayed himself as someone he wasn't.

I wonder why he did it...
