Lots of religions from Catholic to Native American and beyond perform ceremonies to cleanse or renew. I think modern society could benefit from some of these things whether they are part of your religion or a simple pausing to refresh and remember.
Lots of times it is good to connect to your spiritual needs. Stopping for a brief prayer is one way to connect. As long as it is positive and kept in perspective. . .

How do you connect with your spiritual needs through physical objects? That doesn't make any sense.

Have you never gone to church, held a bible or a crucifix when you prayed? Those are physical objects that help to connect your spirit. Some people light candles when they pray. The fact you don't connect that way doesn't mean other people don't.

No I never believed in that sort of thing because it didn't make any sense to me.

Then since you don't believe in that thing, I think it's unfair of you to criticize those that do. If you're not open to new ideas, that is your prerogative, but it doesn't mean other people are wrong.

When i was still working as an ICU nurse , if a doctor was having a hard time doing a procedure on a patient I would often pray for the Lord to help the doctor and guide his hands and to give the patient the strength they needed to get through it. As for lighting a candle - some people think a prayer needs rising smoke to carry a prayer to heaven - I think that is ridiculous. I don't need props to connect to God.On 1/7/2014 Jules5280 said:On 1/7/2014 Red Cherry said:How do you connect with your spiritual needs through physical objects? That doesn't make any sense.

Well Jules, with some of the responses I've seen, I'd say open all the windows and doors, grab the lysol and clean house from top to bottom while singing spirital songs at the top of your lungs. Then light some incense (cherry is good) and relax. May not "cleanse" the house but will definetly clean it out without stepping on any toes or stirring up old spirits. JK ... Thought you could use a little laughter about now.

I am not saying they are but I would like to try to understand why people believe the way they do.

That is the way I feel. God is available anytime, anywhere, anyplace. All we have to do is believe.
