If you had gotten out of your car to confront the other driver in some states, you might have gotten hurt or worse.

DH did that once. He followed a car to the light, which had turned green and the driver, who had the right of way, waited to make a right turn - DH was going straight. He honked his horn, because there were 6 cars behind him, and the light was a short one. Finally, the driver turned, DH went through the light and the car behind him (unmarked cop) turned on his grill lights and pulled DH over...The cop gave him a "warning" about using his horn for a non-emergency situation.
When DH told me about this, I had to
-- everyone in our small town honks all the time, at everybody. After that, if someone behind me honks at me, I use my mighty finger to "let them know I hear them"
And, if it's a cop, I'd ask him "what the emergency situation" is!

I see so many impatient drivers.
One day I was going along, ON the priority road, and some guy in a van was at a stop sign, to come out and turn left from a side street onto the priority road.
Instead of waiting for me to go by (I wasn't driving too slow or anything and nobody was behind me), he just jumped out there when I was so close that I had to slam on my brakes so that I wouldn't hit him right there where he sat.
What does he do? He flips ME off! good grief.

I personally like when I'm going straight, sitting at a red light & the left turn lane gets a green arrow & the idiot behind me starts honking for me to go. I'll sit there a few extra seconds after the light changes just to pizz them off.

Yes...just swear to yourself, and keep your cool. You did the right thing.
A few years back, when I had my pre-teen daughter in the car, I muttered the "f" word at another driver, who happened to be driving a van like the one that shuttled around my daughter's church group...yes, she was in the car with me, and was appalled.
She said...."MOM...that could be the driver of our youth group!" I've tried to be more patient since that episode.
