That is a very strong drug, keep in constant contact with your therapist.

Sometimes kinder, gentler drugs do not work. That was my experience. Everyone is different and has to talk to their Dr to determine what is best for them.

I've never had significant weight gain while taking Prozac. I've been on it for nearly 17 years.

A few serious questions for you, no side effects? Is it still effective? Does your body crave it?

My neighbor just mentioned this drug a couple of days ago. She said there were 2 different ones now. One for depression and one for depression and anxiety. The latter one helped her a lot. I am going to ask my doctor tomorrow if this is true.

I am not Lucy but I'll be glad to answer your questions since I have been on Prozac for quite a few years myself. I have absolutely no side effects and never did. I can miss a dose or two and it doesn't bother me but yes, over time I can tell. This happened awhile back when I had a stomach bug.

I'm asking because other than BP medication I haven't been on any other long term prescriptions. I would be concerned about the effects on organs for example.
When I lost my mother I was on Paxil for less then a year, I missed about a week's worth do to a terrible winter storm that blacked out the entire region and my pills ran out. I had hallucinations at night and because of that I never tried anything else.

With any antidepressant one can not quit cold turkey but you have to ween off gradually because it affects your serotonin production. I m, also on BP meds and have not had any problems. As for long term effects on organs I can't tell you because I don't know. All I do know is that Prozac has been a lifesaver for me.
