Agree. We've had a Fellowes ""Small Business Shredder"" (cross cut) for a number of years. We keep it oiled according to their instructions and it has served us well.

Would you shred a stack of bank statements from 1996, or just toss them into the recycle bin? As far as I know, all of the accounts are closed.

I don't want to get hysterical over security, but maybe I should.

Shredding costs money. Cool

Cost money? Know anyone that has had their identity stolen? I do, and we have had a shredder since they first were available retail to consumers. Strip shred first/cross-cut shred 2nd and just bought a Micro Shredder.

I haven't checked my electricity bill for shredding but I am guessing it is minimal. Hey, each person can do what they think is best for them and I choose shredding and very small shreds.

DEFINITELY shred ...... I found some old files (bank, employment, etc) and I'm shocked at how lax they were back then about our SS numbers placed everywhere ...... better safe than sorry! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Too bad we can't "shred" all the personal information out there in cyberspace.

I would bet that most thieves don't bother with the trash anymore, they just go online.

ETA: Yes, I do shred.

Always shred any legal documents with your name, SS# or account numbers on them, no matter how old. Shredding doesn't cost much, a person can purchase a document shredder for cheap now. Much less expensive than the hassle of dealing with identity theft.
