Re: Should OP of a thread return & respond to posts?

I think if a question has been asked, or if advice has been requested, the OP should absolutely return to thank posters for their input.

Re: Should OP of a thread return & respond to posts?

Hello, Aubergene and welcome. Smiley Happy

I think everyone's different on if they return to a thread or not. I also think there's also some reasons why they don't return.

They may have forgotten that they posted the thread, they may have gotten busy, they may have gotten sick or something eles may have happened in their lives.

And then there's the times when the posters on this site, for whatever reason, pile on the OP when they start a thread or ask a question. If the OP doesn't return because people are being snotty and mean to them, then I understand why they wouldn't want to come back.

I think it's just common courtesy to thank people who replied to your request for help with a problem.  I don't reply to each post but just a thank you to all seems fine to me.  I appreciate the help from fellow posters very much.

Re: Should OP of a thread return & respond to posts?

It depends upon the thread. If I ask a question that is not rhetorical, I come back to see the answers and to thank posters or comment.

If I start a thread where comments and opinions are appropriate and there really are no "answers", I still return to comment, but if the thread turns into a bashing session free-for-all, I don't feel obligated to continue responding. There wouldn't be any point.

IG, I just love reading about Kingston.  To have more pictures and video of him would be great!  Have you ever considered writing an article or a book about him?  What a story that would be!!

I don't start many threads, and the ones I start are never asking "What should I do?" questions, nothing very life exciting. I do try to heart the people who post on threads I start even if I don't post again.

Two things come to mind about posters who pose a provocative scenario and don't return. Sometimes I think they are old posters with new nics who just want to create chaos and negativity. Or, they really are new posters who get scared away by some very thoughtless comments. But since they don't return to tell us, we never know.

I agree. After reading some replies, i wouldn't come back either LOL

Often on this board there will be a pile on of rude, mean posts and in those cases I think the OP is better off to not answer.

I don't start many threads, at least I don't think I do....

But there are times I have and then I'll be out washing the car or grocery shopping, and I think 'Crud, I abandoned that thread, didn't I?'

Ooops.

Re: Should OP of a thread return & respond to posts?

I don't see a need to respond to each individual response, but a general thank you, or other response from the OP to let others know their replies were appreciated seems only logical and polite. That is what I do on the few threads I start. I try to heart every response even if I don't agree, just to let that person know I have read their post and appreciate that they took the time to respond. Lol, my post seems long and redundant, sorry.

Not necessarily.  The OP may just want to get a discussion going.

I, myself do always heart every initial responce, the discussion responces if I agree.

Yes you do.  And it is appreciated @ECBG!
