Re: Shoplifting Getting More Bold

This is a lot more than shop-lifting. GANGS --- they're run like the Mafia and violent. Most will get caught with all the great video that's used now. Most are not very bright and are told what to do. It's also easy to sell items on-line. Stores like to keep these problems quiet --- but if someone gets caught, they'll prosecute.

Re: Shoplifting Getting More Bold

There is nothing to deter the criminals.  Our legal system is a joke!  In fact, on the 4pm news they covered a conference about not incarcerating those awaiting trial.  Seriously???  Guns are everywhere and many have no regard for life.  Until justice is actually served in these cases, things will get much worse.

BTW, I have no tolerance for the bleeding hearts advocating criminals rights.  If someone has committed a heinous act of violence, they deserve to be in prison.

@grandma r   Who advocates for criminal rights? You mean Kim K who is getting people out of prison?

Yes, but I didn’t want to start a firestorm.

There’s so much going on in the country right under people’s noses and we miss a lot of it....because....well..it seems to go under the radar.

I recently found out about some things where I live that people would not be happy about if the public knew about it.

This is being done by people who’ve been in office for days....days !

No!!  This happened today in Philadelphia.  The new DA and others feel that putting those awaiting trial in jail is unfair and prejudicial to minorities and low income offenders.  They cite prison overcrowding.

Sorry, I don't agree.  If a person chooses to commit a crime, they deserve the punishment.

I don't know if any of you are referring to the cash bail reform here in NY.  I fully support this reform, it's wrong to be able to purchase your freedom.

@grandma r  In NY, the criminals are free to go without bail until their time in court. They still will receive their punishment. They are just free till then without bail. What’s the difference being out without bail till your day in court or to be out with bail till your day in court? Either way you’re out. Not everyone shows up for their day in court, those with or without bail.

Not saying I agree with all this, but for now it is what it is.

My issue is with accountability.  Many of these criminals say they had a bad childhood or some other excuse.  We all know right from wrong!!!!  Taking something that isn't yours is wrong.  Attacking others, killing or shooting at random is wrong!!!!  If punishment is administered, maybe the crime level would decrease.

BTW, there was another incident, captured on video today.  A man walked into a jewelry store, reached over the counter and took a $6000 yellow gold bracelet.

In another store a customer put his wallet on the counter and another customer took it.

@grandma r, you seem to be conflating being charged with receiving a guilty verdict.

Only those who cannot post bail have to go to jail. Totally unfair.
