The age ole question:
In which direction do you shave? Product used?
Seems, no matter which direction I shave in, I still get Ingrown hairs, (to some varying degree).
What's your shaving magic? TIA

What are you using to shave? Use a good razor with five sharp blades in the cartridge and replace it before it becomes dull.
Are you using a shaving lotion or cream soap? Ingrown hairs should not be a problem if the hairs are softened first.
I used a razor for decades, but have used an epilator for the last 20-25 years with excellent results. However, I'm 76 and only use it every 7-10 days at this stage in life. (Not sure if the epilator really has reduced the hair growth or if the aging process is the blessing, but I'm delighted with the reduced care required! My showers and baths are much more enjoyable. )
ETA: I shave from the ankle up toward the knee; around the knee and from the knee to the hip. (Seems to be against the way the hair grows or lays, but I never let it grow more than a stubble.)

i'm not a hairy person and pretty much have none on my arms or legs.
Unfortunately I don't have much eyebrow hair, either.
I haven't had to shave my legs in about 30 years. Seriously.

@Tinkrbl44 Haha that makes me a little jealous 😄

I hate shaving my legs. I don't like to stand on one foot in the shower either.
I have been using a men's rechargeable Norelco shaver for years. It's not as close as a shave in the shower but at least I don't have hairy legs.
I shave up/down plus to the sides where it feels like that's the way I need to shave to remove the hair.
Never had an ingrown hair.
My hair must be disappearing. It's on my knees a little down about half way on my legs.
Used to have blonde hair on my arms. It's practically gone.
I used something like this years ago on my legs mid leg to ankles. My hair hasn't grown back there. I need to use it mid way up to knee so I won't have to shave.

Thirty years ago at 50, I have myself a serious birthday gift: electrolysis on brows, underarms and legs. Haven't had to shave arms or legs; some brow tweezing as I further thinned the wide, wild brows down.
Best gift ever. Found someone who did this process at her home studio.

Hi @JoyFilled Warrior I don't have ingrown hairs (maybe one here or there), but the right way to shave is in the direction that the hair is growing.
I have read that using an exfoliating acid pad before shaving may reduce the incidence of ingrown hairs, because it should prevent the bumps from forming. The bumps form because the hair is trapped by dead skin, so removing the dead skin beforehand should help. I would not use them immediately before shaving to avoid irritation. A waxing salon I used to go to recommended the use of exfoliating acid pads that they branded. I just bought something at the drugstore at the time, don't remember the brand.
So I googled "exfoliating pads ingrown hairs", and there are several just for that purpose. I would try FAB Ingrown Hair Pads with BHA + AHA, which is intended for daily use, starting the day after waxing or shaving. Or maybe there is something cheaper in Amazon.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

No hair on my arms or legs.
BUT .... I'm pretty sure I could grow a goatee if I didn't shave my chin!

I've tried shaving my legs in the direction of the hair grow...never worked for me. Left way too much stubble...but I do have fairly coarse hair there, even at 69. The hair on my legs also grows in different directions in different spots, i.e. side to side on my calves, down on my thighs & shins. I even have a "swirl" on one shin! Even shaving against the grain, though, I've never had ingrowns, except on the very tops of my thighs.
I do a lot of plucking on my chin, and jawline...but I shave, too. If I DON'T shave against the grain, stubble is left behind. I do get the occasional ingrown under my chin, whether plucked or shaved.

I have dark hair on top, but body hair is blond and sparse. So are my eye lashes and eye brows. I've never needed to have my legs shaved very often. And I've never shaved my arms, face, etc. Even my under arm hair is sparse.
