Hi ladies, I have beige Berber type carpet here at home. I also do my own shampoo of the carpet with a hisself... But lately the usual diluted white vinegar or even Mr. Clean is not Cutting it. I may buy have to buy premixed carpet shampoo . I would really appreciate any Suggestions you may have tried already. As usual thanks so much. Q.

Before we got rid of the wall-to-wall carpet, I used to rent the Rug Doctor machine. The detergent that they sold with the machine seemed to do a good job of stain removal.

Thank you deepwater. I sort of prefer my own concoctions but will consider rug doctor brand.

I use Dr. Bronner's Salsuds in my Bissell. Believe it or not, one or two drops in the water is the recommended strength.

When I had carpet all over the house, I'd use my Hoover carpet cleaner, but once a year I'd have a carpet cleaning service do a professional job. When I cleaned I always used the cleaner recommended for my machine.

I shampoo my carpets myself with the Bessel. I've used their cleaner when it came with the machine. I buy what's in the grocery store. I find that my carpets get cleaner and stay cleaner longer when I do a double rinse.

Thank you thank you! I am thinking the double rinse might be the answer. Now if I could get my husband to remember to wipe his feet. Take care, Q.

There is a nice Hoover kit of carpet cleaning stuff (a few different products). I've purchased a few of these kits at Amazon because they were only $12 for the whole kit, and you pay more than that for JUST the 16oz cleaning solution (the kit has a 32oz one in it).

My carpet cleaner is the Hoover All-Terrain. It works great in every way - cleans well, sukks out the liquid from the carpet VERY well, and is easy to take apart and clean when you're done.

Before that I had a Bissell and it didn't do any of those things well at all. It was particularly poor at getting the wet out of the carpet and I'd have to block areas off for several days (at least two days even in summer!) before the carpet was dry. Plus, it was a major pain to get the components of the carpet cleaner cleaned up after use.

But I really like my SpotBot for spot cleaning. That works very nicely and is easy to use for small jobs.
