My daughter has had some amazing and interesting jobs in her short 31 years. She worked for a company that managed a huge circus. That job meant coming to work every day in a place where (when you walk through the door) you are walking into what looks like a huge 3 ring circus. You are greated by huge clowns. She had other jobs that were as much fun. However, the job that she had after September 11 was the one that brought every emotion one can experience to the surface every day. She worked for "The September 11th Fund". This was the group of people who carried out the task of paying out the money the President said that each survivor of a person who died should receive. A lot of people saw the President's speach and understood that these survivors were getting money from the US Government. However, most people didn't know or understand how the amount of money the survivorm would receive was determined. My daughter could tell you, I still don't understand all of it. I'd rather tell you from a Mother's point of view how September 11th affected my daughter. I/she would be the first to tell you there are many others who suffered both physically and emotionally way, way more than she did. Her emotional pain was what a human being feels when they see pictures and come in contact with people who (often times were so beaten down) they, themselves had no idea how they put one foot in front of the other every day to 'just keep going'. To this day my daughter will not talk about the people, the pictures and the sheer agony she saw every day. These were people who would call, and just want someone to talk to, to tell how much they miss their loved ones, or whether their wounds are healing. We hear about the people who died. And well we should because they are no longer with us. However, we don't hear much about the people who were burned, lost a finger or fingers, or suffered anything from what occurred this horific day. Many of these people will always have a reminder every day about September 11. They have to work extra hard to put the remembrance on the 'back burner' because when they look down at themselves or look in the mirror they are immediately reminded. I guess I mention all of this because I don't hear much about these people. There aren't a lot of people who survived. But there are some. So I would ask you tomorrow when you go to church (or if you just take a few minutes) please pray also for these people who were physically, or mentally affected by this terrible act against our country.
