We named our second daughter Liberty Rose [aka Libby ] in honor of the many thousands of people who died that day. She wears that name proudly. She is 13 years old. Thank you for sharing your story. I am a native New Yorker too and I still work in NY City.

On that day my brother lost a friend and former student, Tom McGuinness, who was the first officer on American Airlines flight 11 that crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. My brother had been his LSO in the Navy (Landing Signal Officer, the aviator on deck who critiques and assigns a grade to pilots landing on carriers).
On that day my brother was captain on a transatlantic flight from Europe to the US. Midflight he was notified that all US airspace was closed and so re-routed the flight to land in Canada without having any idea why as they were not told what had happened.

I watched a program about the Marriott hotel in between the two towers I had no idea 40 people were killed there. 14 people in the south stairwell were saved because of a firefighter and because it was repaired with steel beams after the bombing in 1994/95 not sure the year. God Bless the USA!
The 1st bombing was in 1993. The company DH worked for moved out of the WTC after that incident. They were originally located on the top floors of the North Tower.

My God I am sorry to hear that. I thought it was bad enough just watching it on TV.

Serenna, I watched that program last night. I wasn't aware of the Hotel either. That was quite a story too. Yes, God Bless the USA!

Dear I am still OXOXOX,
What a horrific experience... I am so sorry that this event struck you so personally.
Do you know that the teens in my classes now know this as the #1 historical event that touched their lives? And one student, who lost a beloved uncle, a fire fighter, wears his clothing every 9/11 and celebrates his birthday this way.
The WTC attack happened during my first year of teaching. I will never forget the events as they transpired that day. We teachers were watching, still horrified at the first tower, as a second plane flew into the 2nd tower.
I hope all who suffered loss of loved ones or suffered personal devastation will heal.
