I wonder who hired her and what her credentials were?

Very sad story all around! She screwed up for sure, but was it necessary to point the gun at the cinematographer? It also sounds like what the family and friends called it, not an accident, but negligence...all around.
In this day and age, can't they CGI the weapons? The audience will understand.

When my dad served in the military, he was an armourer. Pertaining to this case, he said you never point a weapon at someone else unless you intend to use it and always assume a gun is loaded. Period.
I wonder if Alec Baldwin had been filming a suicide scene, if he would have checked that pistol beforehand?

@Posh Poodle - 1) Not all actors (or civilians) have military training.
2) There is no reason to believe any actor would know the difference between a live round and a blank.
That's why they hire professional armorers.

@Ronettes and @Kachina624
I think Baldwin will get off, unfortunately. He killed a wife, mother, daughter, and sister. I would be very worried if I were him because karma exists. Judgment and accountability do come knocking. It may not be tomorrow or next year. But it will happen.

Sorry, not buying it.
Baldwin has been in the business long enough to know.
Gun lesson 101 to you: anytime you hold a weapon, you ALWAYS assume it's loaded.
No excuses!!!
You cannot deflect your own responsibility onto someone else.
He held the gun.
He pointed the pistol.
He pulled the trigger.
He took a life.

@Posh Poodle - We can agree to disagree.
I don't have all the facts and neither does anyone else not directly involved in the case or present at the time. Only the court officials and lawyers have access to all the facts.
(However, even the judge pointed out that Gutierrez-Reed was blaming everyone but herself and that it was her job. She held her responsible for taking a life, in the sentencing.)
And I don't need you to give me lessons in how to handle a gun. Thank you. You're talking real life; not a movie set.
And I'm done with this conversation.

You're right. I am talking REAL life where someone was murdered.
I'm done talking to you, too.

I was surprised the sentece was only 18 months since it involved a death. Alec Baldwin still says he didn't fire the gun; the armorer seems to be the scapegoat. I would be very upset if he is not held accountable for his part in this poor woman's death. I can only imagine the heartbreak her family must still be dealing with.

@Trailrun23. Eighteen months was the maximum allowed for the charge. I'm sure she was hoping for less but this judge was not sympathetic. She won't be sympathetic with Baldwin either.
