@songbird Really? omg!!!!!I had never heard this.....That is crazy! I live about 45 minutes south of where This took place(the Slenderman)and it was just nuts......I have a hrd time believing the mother and father of the firl who got 40 years, didn't see any signs of schizophrenia in the 12 year old... I saw an exclusive intgerview with her mother, and she said she saw absolutely nothing.That just seems odd to me, especially since her husband was schizophrenic..I truly hope the 2 girls get the help that they need. I just don;t want to hear in 5 years they are declared sane and out they come...That happens all too often in these type of cases....I am so glad the survivor is doing well and is back in school and thriving. This was so shocking when it happened, I had never heard of the The Slenderman.......I definitely won't be seeing the movie!

So glad this case is over. It's been on our news a lot. The victim could so easily have died at the hands of those two girls.

@songbird. Yes, I found this out recently. I have never read any of her books before and now will make sure I never read or purchase any. Despicable.

I find it hard to believe that someone with mental illness would have the ability to be remorseful and make a public apology for their actions which the main girl did to the victim's parents and to the victim. I think that this was a case of two little mean girls gone amok and with a parent grasping for straws about the alleged schizophrenia of the husband or father. If you look up that definition it doesn't meet the criteria for this crime. It angers me this whole mess as does this weird slender man ideation, fixation or whatever the girls pulled out of their hat.

This sure looks like a hate thread with people not even wanting to read up on the case and who just want to say "kill 'em!"

Morgan Geyser, the one who did the actual stabbing, was diagnosed with "rare early-onset schizophrenia" and seems to be getting worse. Her parents didn't tell her growing up that her father is schizophrenic, I don't believe. And they never noticed anything out of the ordinary with her personality.

Anissa Weier likely had a "shared delusional disorder" with Morgan.

And to the person who said they were "mean girls" before this happened, where's the proof?!

It's still not clear why this happened. This happened during a innocent time (certainly for New Zealand). A country with a very sparse population and a bucolic culture. The other girl stayed in New Zealand and became a horse breeder. Neither married and neither talked about it. Perry objected when the film came out. Since then neither has said anything aout it. The two never had contact with each other afterwards per the judge's order.

The victim didn't die. We don't impose the death penalty for that.

Exactly! What more proof do you need? What they did was horrendous.

Not only that but when the mother was interviewed she said her daughter displayed no unusual behavior. If she really had schizophrenia she would be exhibiting all kinds of abnormal behavior. Kids can't hide that especially from their parents who supposedly had a leg up on the disease. The judge in fact demanded expert testimony to keep the girls out of adult prison but he certainly couldn't let them go either. Expert testimony stating they are schizophrenic would keep them locked up in a mental facility for a decent amount of time and exactly what the judge was seeking. Hopefully, they will not get out early or get pregnant by a guard.
