Why would you want to see a young mans life ruined?
Why? Maybe to see another young mans life saved from being shot by the police. Also to save a policeman from the pain of shooting a fool with a gun that looks real but isn't.
How about just making illegal to carry any kind of gun in public? Real or fake.
That might solve the problem.
🤦♀️
Did you really just say that? So all we need is something on paper and the problem would no longer exist? Hmm, imagine that 🤔. What about common sense or personal responsibility and accountability?
Obvious toys aren't the problem.
Legal carriers aren't the problem. I know many and I have never seen their firearm out of the holster in a public situation.
Yes, I just said it. Why should anyone walk around showing a gun? What purpose does it serve except to show you are a potential danger?
Please forgive me if I am wrong, but even with open carry lalws, I don't think it's legal to run around pointing the gun at anyone.

Is it legal to play with a toy gun in the park? All by yourself? Posing like you're the good guy shooting the bad guy?
My point is that if NO ONE open carries, you don't have to make a deadly decision to take someome out who may or may not be a risk.

@Lakelife62 Oh but what about mean people who carry guns around and open carry? And rob and shoot folks? I worry about them.

First and foremost, self protection. Talk to any legal carrier and they will tell you they never want to have to use their firearm. Criminals don't care about the law. Taking the right to carry away from law abiding citizens puts them in a greater risk of being harmed or killed by said criminal.
I didn't say anything about taking away rights to carry.
Huh? 🤔 That was your initial comment that began this conversation. How else is your statement to be taken?
"How about just making illegal to carry any kind of gun in public? Real or fake.

Apologies. I should have been more explicit and said "open carry". That is what I meant. I furthered the point in my second comment to you:
"Why should anyone walk around showing a gun? What purpose does it serve except to show you are a potential danger?"
There is no logical reason to walk around publicc obviously armed. Unless you are advertising that you are a walking time bomb. If nobody was allowed to open carry, we wouldn't have to figure out who the bad guys are.
@Lakelife62 - it's obvious to me that you don't understand what Open Carry actually is. All it means is that the carrier's gun can be seen by someone else, as opposed to Concealed Carry which means it's hidden. In either case, the gun is in its holster. Open Carry does not mean the individual is acting a fool and running around waving a loaded weapon around. That said, yes, there are bad guys who could very well do that. We've seen it on the TV news. But again, the bad guys don't care about laws. Also again, law abiding citizens who are gun owners know the laws and follow them. It doesn't matter if their state is Open Carry or Concealed Carry, their gun remains in the holster unless an unfortunate situation happens and the owner has no other choice than to use it.

Thank you, @JeanLouiseFinch for stating what should be the obvious. I don't usually get into these types of discussions as those that oppose the 2nd amendment will get all riled up about it.
I am thankful that my DH has been through firearms training. He is not a "walking time bomb". He is prepared to protect us at home if necessary.
Maybe those that want all firearms taken away, can throw water balloons at intruders that threaten them in their homes and sing Kumbaya.

I'm sorry if you think you are speaking to someone uninformed. I understand perfectly well the difference between open and concealed carry. I don't care of the gun is holstered. If i can see it and my family can see it, I don't agree with it. Many open carry states allow the open carry of long guns only. If someone is open carrying a rifle, do you think everyone around them is not going to see it?
I have been in a state where rifles are open carried WITHOUT the need for a permit and it is intimidating- having a coffee outdoors, walking around a farmers market. It is stupid and reckless. An invitation to start trouble.
I do not have a problem with responsible people carrying. I am against open carry for the same reasons I've stated earlier.
I'm going no further with this, since you misread my original statements and it has only gotten worse since.

@JeanLouiseFinch The college/university offering the scholarships doesn't have to consider the mother and her pleas. Depending on the institution, admin may decide to renege on their offers.
('Course, if he's a gifted player who's been heavily recruited, he'll likely get away with this behavior because, well, money and winning are very important, ya know.)
@Kalli - the young man was supposed to appear in court on the 22nd. I haven't seen anything regarding the outcome but it wouldn't be surprising if the charge got knocked down to a misdemeanor and a fine, maybe some probation.
I did read, though, that St. Xavier has reassured him that his full scholarship is not in jeopardy.

GOOD that he did jail time. Hopefully, he will NOT get either scholarship. He has to learn that there are CONSEQUENCES for his actions.
@layla2450 He wasn't the only one playing this game. You should want everyone involved in the game to be arrested, not just one participant.

The laws only apply to law abiding citizens and typically you don't have to worry about them.
Worry about thugs and criminals, and work with your representaives to see that they are held responsible for and punished appropriately for their crimes and misdeeds.
Worry should be about the lawless ones among us.

They are law abiding until they are not. Jeffrey Epstein followed the law until he didnt. I am safely in a state with very tough gun laws. I don't worry about much for myself. I'm a lucky person and im grateful for that daily. I do worry about those who struggle.
