I sold one time on Marketplace and that was enough for me.  Had one buyer who was very interested and asked a million questions which took up way too much of my time only to have him bail at the last minute!  Thankfully a nice person came through and even picked it up.  Not worth the hassle.  No way I would refund.

@roeroe1005 , I would feel bad for the buyer too, but you are not responsible for the theft.  Buyer needs to file a report with the police.

I sold some stuff on ebay years ago.  One sale was a 14K pair of earrings I'd purchased from Q.  They were marked 14K and the original receipt from Q stated they were 14K. When buyer received them she emailed me to say her local jeweler told her they weren't 14K but a lesser karat gold. She asked for me to send her $10.  I did it and would NEVER do that again!  I believe she lied to get some money back.

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago.  I actually sold a bunch of my 14K to a local gold buyer.  All of the pieces were from QVC and all were marked 14K. EVERYTHING was tested by the buyer and every single piece tested as being 14K.  It just reaffirmed my suspicion that I was scammed by that woman years ago.

I've never sold anything on ebay again.  I have purchased stuff because they protect buyers more than sellers on that site.

@Trailrun23,
my error, it was Fedex. I had sent him the tracking number and I looked it up this morning too. It was delivered approx 4:30ish. He contacted me thru Marketplace about 7:30p.

@roeroe1005, I'm just curious what the insurance covers. Is it only to secure delivery without damage, or is there also a theft clause?

Regardless you fulfill your end of the agreement.

I sell on marketplace often. I put in my listing cash only and they must pick it up at my home.

It's a well known scam on marketplace, sorry you experienced this.

I've had UPS and Amazon both take photos of delivery, once they took a photo of my pup and item delivered.

@Alsace Gal  you let them come to your home? That's a no no!! Even the Police would tell you that.

This is done often as a porch pickup, I have purchased some baby items for my grandson with no issue.

I agree with those that say I would just advise the buyer to file a police report.

Thank you again for your replies.

I've sold on Marketplace several times, but always smaller items that were sent thru the post office or local pickups.

I did respond to the purchaser to say that it was awful that the box was taken.  I did my part and feel once it was delivered, it's out of my hands.

Thank you again!  I'm going back to selling small items.Woman Tongue

I think insurance only secures delivery, after that it's out of the shipper's hands.

I haven't read this entire thread but here's my thought.  I have bought and sold on Ebay for years.  Any issue has been investigated and straightened out by Ebay.  That's on both sides.  You will pay a small commission but it's worth the peace of mind.

We've heard stories of people being robbed when meeting up with a buyer.  DH has also shown me ads in autos and equipment on Marketplace and Craig's List where the seller lists an amazing unbelievable price.  He followed up on one of these and the seller wanted to email him more pictures.  I had a bad feeling and yes, it happened.  The guy just sold our email to multiple sources and we got obscene porn ads for years.  Google did a good job of keeping them in spam.

You completed your end of the transaction if package was delivered to address given to you. If, indeed, the package was stolen from his porch, as he says, it is his problem to take up with USPS or UPS, whoever delivered it.
