I agree with sidsmom on the definition. I read it as the word ""typically"" is referring to taking it with a smartphone or webcam.

DH and I take ""ussies"" lol

What's the big deal. Why do some get so mad about this!?

Our android has a front facing camera. We don't have to take our reflection by standing and facing a mirror or holding the camera up in a weird position while hoping the pic will take. We can look right at the camera and see ourselves like a mirror. We take some great pics of ourselves when we're traveling or out in nature when there's nobody around to hold the camera for us.

That interpretation would require that they had been sloppy with their punctuation (which one hopes the OED can be relied upon not to be!)

My kitten is famous too. She has her own Facebook fan page with literally thousands of fans from all over the world. She is so photogenic and everyone loves seeing her pics. I also take selfies of myself holding her.

We receiver selfies of DD, DSIL and our DGD who is 9 months old. We enjoy them all. The last one received two days ago was one of our granddaughter. She took a picture of herself on her mom's iPhone 5. She had this look on her face like she was really concentrating. Too funny!

Hmmm, I guess my family, friends & I are weirdos. We like to take pictures of pretty scenery, activities at a public event, like dancers, interesting signage, etc rather than of ourselves. Strange as it may sound, we already know what we look like.

I've never taken one. It's not something I would do.
