I don't care where I sit as long as the chairs are good. I get mad when these places have those cheap wooden chairs that kill my back. I like going to the local Italian restaurant, all THICK real leather booths and leather covered chairs! The best seats ever, clean, and the best food. That's all that matters to me. Im not fussy..lol.

My personal story:

I wish the chef had taken notice of the critter (some kind of winged insect) that was on top of my steamed vegetables at a local restaurant. Even the server didn't notice it. It was the first thing I noticed when it was served to me. The manager came over to my table and was p***ed about what had happened. He apologized profusely.

Open kitchens have been popular around here for years, especially in the wine country. I don't like to sit near noise, I would have asked to move, also. You're paying for the dinner, why be uncomfortable?

I won't sit near the bathroom or the kitchen -- and I make that very clear when being seated.

In some restaurants, seating near the kitchen is fine. Love those where's there's a bar area and I can watch, but if the kitchen is more or less closed off, I don't want to be near it.

Further note, just ate at a place that had an open kitchen, but no bar seating to watch and we were a few tables back. The music was so loud that I could not hear my companion's voice. When I asked if the music could be turned down, the waitress said it was loud to cover the kitchen noise. Not sure why they'd both to cover one noise with another since that makes things doubly annoying. They did turn it down for a while - but I'm not going back!

I don't care to sit near the kitchen, either, and won't accept a table there if the hostess tries to seat me there when other tables are available. However, since your friend had accepted that table and was already seated, you should have let it go -- or if the location really bothered you, you might have asked your friend if she would be interested in moving. It seems rude for you to initiate requesting a move for the two of you when your friend had already accepted that seat.

I can't remember the last restaurant I've been in where anyone could even be seated near a bathroom. They are always in a separate area, down a hallway or something.

If I'm meeting one person for dinner, I don't like to get seated until they get there. Some restaurants don't even seat you until your whole party is there anyway.

I agree, I would like a table away from the hustle and bustle. I go to dinner to relax.

It depends on the restaurant.

Many years ago I stayed in Seattle and I went to a restaurant named 13 Coins and you could see the chefs prepare the food. It was very pleasant and if I ever get to Seattle again, if the restaurant is still there, I'd go again.
