We've been getting unsolicited emails as a result of inquiring about insurance online. Some clearing house set up to answer questions or sell insurance sent out our addy to be used by anyone who wanted. I have to individually ask them to deleted us from their email list but new ones keep popping up.

Also I noticed that because I "liked" a certain online retailer on FB, they added my FB image to their site's option to make comments on products. No one sees it unless I make a comment. Not that I care that much but it shows whatever you put out there online, is available to anyone who can make use of it.
