In my emails this morning, I had two notifications from American Eagle Outfitters. One was an order for a pair of jeggings and the other was a 'thanks for signing up for our emails.'

I immediately called them. The order is going to someone in New Jersey. It was via Paypal (which I do have). However - at this time it appears that it was only an incorrect email address entered into their system, which the CS rep wrote up a ticket for, so it's noted in their system.

There have been no charges on my Paypal account that I haven't authorized and no charges on my bank account or bank card either that I haven't made. I would normally get an email from Paypal about a charge, and I haven't.

So - of course it makes you uneasy, waiting for a shoe to drop, and I'll be checking all my bank info, Paypal info and CCs for the next few days just to be sure. But at this point it appears to be an innocent error. I have gotten emails in the past that were obviously just misdirected, but it's never been associated with a purchase before. Creepy!

I'm glad it was just an e-mail error.  I keep getting e-mails from Vitacost about orders.  The e-mail is to someone with my name, but her address is in California.  I live in East TN.  I have e-mailed them twice about the mistake, but continue to get order confirmations from them.  She must order from them all the time.  I'm surprised she hasn't contacted them that she isn't getting her confirmations or tracking information.

@Moonchilde Well, you made the call, and you should ask for a confirmation in writing via email from American Eagle and Paypal that you will not be charged. We use Paypal for lots of things, including getting money to our son anywhere in the world when he is on tour with his band (between shows and needs food). No problems so far.

@NickNack, I'm a bit extra nervous because I've also had USPS issues over the past month (they assure me no one's been re-directing my mail, but still...) and because I've had cards hacked before.

@PA Mom-mom, I have never had a problem with Paypal, nor do I feel using them makes me more vulnerable than anything else.

Perhaps I need to clarify - I was not charged for the item, and did not receive the usual receipt from Paypal. This does not, at this time, appear to be a case of someone deliberately charging an item to my account - which has not happened. No money has left my financial institutions, nor has Paypal sent me a notification that a charge was made on my account with them.
