Man charged over flower delivery scam

Posted 21 Nov 2008, 11:42pm

A Sydney man has been charged over an alleged scam which left a number of people robbed of their savings.

Police say the man knocked on the doors of people's homes in the city's north, dressed as a courier and carrying a bunch of flowers and bottles of wine.

He would deliver the parcel, asking for a signature to confirm it had been received.

He then allegedly asked them to pay a $3.50 delivery fee, using EFTPOS by swiping their credit cards into a hand held machine.

Police say those involved then noticed large sums of money being withdrawn from their bank accounts over the next few days. Police arrested the 50-year-old man after stopping his car on the F3 freeway yesterday.

Card skimming devices were allegedly found in his vehicle.

He has been charged with 10 counts of fraud.

I figured the call asking when you would be home was to find out when you would not be there...so they could break in.
