If you can get Nomorobo through your landline carrier (I have At&T U-Verse), please do it!  It stops all robo calls from coming through on my phone (it rings once, then is cut off).  Go to the Nomorobo website, and they will show you how to set it up (not tricky at all).  In addition to that, I NEVER answer my phone unless I recognize the caller ID (pops up on my TV screen, which is really convenient!).  Once you answer it, they know they have a "live" number, and will not only harass you, but give your number to other harassers!

It's a great service and becoming more widely available over time.

Here's the link for those interested:

I just registered our landline.  I thought I'd already done this but never completed the procedure.

Thanks for reminding me to check.

Re: Scam Call From U.S. Treasury

I'm pretty sure no one would fall for a call like that....lol   I'm not sure why you would waste your time by Googling the number....I think I would have laughed....

Get an answering machine and only answer a call when you know who is calling.

Rinse and repeat

...and even though it has been said about a billions times.......banks, government agencies, the IRS...yada yada yada.  NEVER call people.  That never happens.  Not that anyone would ever get a call or anything else from the Treasury Dept.

In all fairness, this information is repetitive to some but not to all.

I'd rather see it re-posted and re-shared countless times with the hopes it will help someone than to try and stifle the information by mocking those who try to be helpful.Smiley

Sadly, senior citizens fall for these scams everyday.

As I said in an earlier post, despite the fact I knew this was a scam, the first (male) caller really rattled me.

I've been getting them, too. Usually screen through caller ID, but I did open the message they left, and it was IRS scamming. Deleted it.

I also am getting calls with my daughter's name (mispronounced) but don't answer them. However, the next time, I will and tell them to stop harrassing me since we have a very aggressive AG and they can be fined $10,000 if they keep calling. I did google their number and it IS a scam/fraud. They are trying to collect on years-old credit cards, which are usually paid off, etc.

Annoying! I'm one of the older people on these boards, but I'm too savvy to fall for this kind of scam. Feel bad about others who panic and send money.

If you answer, you just confirm for them that yours is a viable, active number.  They're not afraid of your AG.  Don't answer.

Re: Scam Call From U.S. Treasury

I'm home most of the time and receive around 5 scam calls a day. I call them names I can't put on here. NEVER respond to any phone call, email, text OR letter in the mail. If u have any questions about the people or companies that contact you, google their phone # OR find their phone # on-line and call them. It's usually a scammer.

Re: Scam Call From U.S. Treasury

[ Edited ]

What I don't understand is why ANY reputable company would advertise or solicit through telemarketing.  In this day and age anyway!  To me there is no word in the English language that conjures up hatred about the  sales industry, than the word 'telemarketer".  Their legacy is that of a scam artist, than an honest business.  Who would do business with someone who calls all hours of the day and night, and wants a credit card or personal info.?  None of us here would I am sure.  I realize there are vulnerable and fragile people out there who would, but even lately they are warned and are very aware.

This telemarketing angle to selling might have worked in the 60's, 70's and 80's when people were a little more honest, and propriety was honored.  But now??  All I can think is scuzball, scammer and a nettle in my thigh. I think it has become such an invasion of privacy and a problem for the government, regulations should be stiffer.  I think phone companies should be made to provide blocking systems on the phone WE pay for. The phone systems are so computerized I am sure they could do something right off with overseas calls, and relaying them.  It would be a start. Have you seen the roll call of taxes we pay on phones?

Telemarketing and phone scamming is so bad that I might vote for a President who could assure the abolishment of these calls.  LOL!  Seriously, it is a thought.

Re: Scam Call From U.S. Treasury

We received a message today supposedly from the IRS, a final notice, threatening a lawsuit.  We were given a phone number and instructed to call it right away.  Instead, I went online and filed an IRS Impersonation Scam Report.
