M E D I T A T I O N F O R T H E D A Y

We can have life and have it more abundantly--spiritual, mental, physical,
abundant life--joyous, powerful life. These we can have if we follow the
right way. Not all people will accept from God the gift of an abundant
life, a gift held out free to all. Not all people care to stretch out a
hand and take it. God's gift, the richest God has to offer, is the precious
gift of abundant life. People often turn away from it, reject it, and will
have none of it. We need not let this be true of us.

P R A Y E R F O R T H E D A Y

I pray that I may hasten to accept the gift of abundant spiritual life. I
pray that I may live the good life to the best of my ability.

Hello my friends! Rainy morning, but not that much that the man who cleans
windows couldn't come and get his job done! What a blessing that was to get
all our windows cleaned inside and out - a gift certificate from Christmas
from our daughters! Today we spent time looking for cushions for our patio
chairs and swing - no luck - but he did find a good deal on new patio
chairs, cheaper than the cushions would be, so we bought new chairs instead
and is it ever nice! Couldn't find anything for the swing yet. So that
will have to wait. So much is gone already on their clearance sales. It
was another great blessing having Father Jerry over again tonight - Linus
made chicken on the grill and potatoes too, from the garden! I made a salad
and cooked some frozen veggies, very good meal, and very good visit! Sammy
got groomed, his hair cut a little shorter, and he looks so nice! Praying
for you all for all you wish prayers for!!

THE BEST PURSUIT
From God's Little Lessons On Life

In 1947 Dr. Chandrasekhar was asked to teach an advance seminar in
astrophysics at the University of Chicago. At the time, he was living
in Wisconsin, doing research at the Yerkes astronomical observatory.
He faced a 100-mile commute twice a week in the dead of winter to
teach the class, but he nonetheless agreed.

However, registration for the advanced seminar was far below
expectations. In fact, only two students signed up for the class.
Other faculty members expected Dr. Chandrasekhar to cancel the course,
so as not to waste his valuable time. He determined, however, to
continue with the
course and give his very best to the two students registered. Those
students, Chen Ning Yang and Tsung-dao Lee, made his efforts
worthwhile. Ten years later, in 1957, they both won the Nobel prize
for physics. In 1983, Dr. Chandrasekhar won that same award.

Ends and means are not meant to exist in conflict. Good means to good
ends are what challenges us to find and to do, regardless of the
personal cost, the effort required, or the lack of resulting public
acclaim. The best pursuit of the best ideals -- that's what it means
to have integrity.

"I know, my God that you test men to see if they are good; for you
enjoy good men. I have done all this with good motives, and I have
watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously. (1

THE ' L I T T L E ' THINGS

As you might remember, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son
started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.
One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time.
One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike because of an auto
accident.

One of them missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.

One's car wouldn't start.

One couldn't get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that
morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he
developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a
band-aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic , miss an elevator, turn back to answer a
ringing telephone . . . . All the little things that annoy me.

I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very
moment.

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong ,

The children are slow getting dressed,

You can't seem to find the car keys,

You hit every traffic light,

Don't get mad or frustrated;

It May be just that God is at work watching over you.

May God continue to bless you with all those annoying little things

And may you remember their possible purpose.


You give me strength

Prayer to Redeem Lost Time
O my God! Source of all mercy! I acknowledge Your sovereign power. While
recalling the wasted years that are past, I believe that You, Lord, can in
an instant turn this loss to gain. Miserable as I am, yet I firmly believe
that You can do all things. Please restore to me the time lost, giving me
Your grace, both now and in the future, that I may appear before You in
"wedding garments." Amen.

We are all capable of good and evil. We are not born bad: everybody has
something good inside. Some hide it, some neglect it, but it is there. God
created us to love and to be loved, so it is our test from God to choose one

THE STARFISH

Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his
writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw
a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of
someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't
dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something
and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the
ocean."

"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up, and the tide is going out, and if I don't throw them in
they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach,
and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a
difference for that one."
