Sandhill cranes flying over...

Feels like spring today here in Indiana - a flock of sandhill cranes just flew over (they have such a distinct sound).  Birds are just chirping today, plants are peeking their little heads out of the ground - won't be long!

That sounds lovely.  It us unseasonably warm in my neck of the woods today. I noticed earlier that some of our fruit trees are beginning to bud out. I noticed my jonquils are coming up. I love spring. Till the allergies hit, lol.

Cranes

If you're ever in New Mexico in November, stop by Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge for the Festival of the Cranes.

@hoosieroriginal In my neck of the woods cranes are flying bugs whose larvae eat the roots of your lawn.I thought you had a huge infestation for the upcoming spring.

I can just imagine the racket all those sandhill cranes would make !! We have 2 here and they squack under our bedroom window every morning as soon as it gets light out.

@151949 - The first time I heard the cranes they were circling way way up in the sky - I could barely see them but could hear them.  They tend to fly pretty high. They were pretty low today - I love them!

We're in NW Indiana and just saw two on the back of our property! We've

seen them fly over, but never land around here. I wish they'd hang around

so I can get a picture of them.

I would love to see something like that.  It must be similar to storks returning from Africa to spend the summer in the cooler north of Europe.  I remember that from when I was a child on my grandmother's farm.
