So what's her point in making this public? She's not the only woman to take this action.

She made it public because in October she got a clean bill of health on her mammogram. Within a few weeks she felt a lump but her doctor brushed her off and told her it could not have been anything. Her mom persuaded her to get a second opinion with a breast specialist and it turned out she had cancer. She talked about it to the public so that other women would be their own self advocate...if they think something is wrong get a second opinion.

Oh My Gosh…did you really say that?

I feel sad for her and wish her well. I think she's adorable!

I wish her the best. I'm just curious if anyone knows, is it usual these days to take both breasts as a precaution? I'm thinking the cancer was just one the one side, perhaps I read wrong. My sister had a single mastectomy 30 years ago and did have a recurrence but it was in the same side as the first. They treated the second bout with radiation and thankfully she has been well since. The remaining breast has been fine. Just wondering.

It's up to the patient. I have a good friend that had BC in one breast and she asked them to take them both. The same thing happened to a former co-worker of mine.

The point she was making is --if you feel something is not right after the drs tell you not to worry about it, you must take charge and advocate for yourself until YOU are satisfied, which is what she did. Thats all. All of us need to be aware of what our bodies are telling us. Cancer happens to all walks of life and any info put out in the public to remind us of that, is good. Be aware and be pro-active. Bravo Samantha!!!!!! I had a clean bill of health in June of 2011 and was dx with breast cancer in April of 2012.
