@chrystaltree  They didn't ask me for anything.  See message #35 above.  When I got that email, I went to ssa.gov/myaccount & looked for myself.  There is an option for setting up the extra security using the cell phone.

My cousin works there and I forwarded my email to her. As soon as I here from her, I'll let you know status.

They have it if you want to fill in the part that asks for it.   I got that email too, from SSA   NOT   IRS.

I got this email as well....I recently went on line to get the info for my retirement dollars...so maybe that is how/why I got the email.

I do think it is legit but I am not happy about it...

I do not have a phone that accepts texts.....and have no plan to.  Another hoop to jump thru.

Oh geez!  I better warn my husband.  He turns 65 next month and we are already getting all this unsolicited mail (USPS mail) trying to sell him stuff.  I've been getting rid of it, because he is VERY, uh I hate to use the word 'gullible' so I'll just say - impressionable.  Smiley Wink

I can just see him getting this email, clicking on whatever, and giving them his SS# and who knows what else.   oy

Mine is to lazy to do anything tells me to handle it.

He tried to send money one time by Western Union to somebody who told him if he would send them money he would be coming into thousands.

I caught it in time by stopping the transfer at western union then I called the police and told them of the scam they already were aware of it, but, I asked if they would talk to him if I bought him in . they said "yeah".  Husband, is a medical professional and no dummy, but, he actually thought it was a legit he won something.  Idiot.

I told the cops only one getting his money is ME ! they all died laughing and said they would hate to come up against me hahahahahha

Emails supposedly from IRS or SS are scams.

Even if you are involved in some kind of discussion with one of those agencies, if you get an email from them, do not open it.  It's not from any legit agency.

That would only be true if you never had any dealings with the SSA whereby you gave them an email addy.

I have a MySocialSecurity.com account (which is helpful) for several reasons and the emails I get are not spam or suspicious.
