Prayers for all. I hope all posters here affected will be ok. I wish this wasn't happening, I wish these storms could be stopped.

I'm so glad I read your post and what a good idea aobut filling your washer!

I never would have thought of that.

I know about filling the tub but even though I don't think my 17 year old cat would want to go in there, I don't want to take a chance.

But I can close the washing machine lid!

Family and friends in Manatee & Sarasota counties are prepared, and will ride out the storm at home. It's going to be bad, but not as bad as it will be on the east coast. Manatee county shelters open tomorrow, but unfortunately, they don't have the capacity to accomodate even the zone A and mobile home population. Friends that own a beach front resort on one of the Gulf barrier islands say that they typically aren't busy this time of year, but even with an evacuation order in effect for the entire island, they're having a hard time getting a few guests to understand that they need to leave NOW. They think it'll be "an adventure" to stay on the island. Idiots.

My SE Fla. relatives "got out of Dodge."  Nephew who is a grad student in Miami drove up and arrived at parents home in La. last night.  Niece with hubby & 5 kids live on the coast between Miami and West Palm.  They flew back to La. last night. Their parents have a full house, but are so relieved.

I'm really worried for the folks who are staying.
