Unless you were born last week, most people should know to assume that the winter weather will cause shipping delays. You can take that to the bank.
Yet, people constantly complain (and some scream holy heck) because their packages are delayed. This year is made worse because of the pandemic and the MASSIVE increase in online purchases. Billions more.
Seriously?
Last night's news was warning people about the serious storms on the east coast ....uh, isn't this typical December weather?
I was on my Paypal website this morning looking up something from November, and on the PO tacking page it states:
ALERT: USPS IS EXPERIENCING UNPRECEDENTED VOLUME INCREASES AND LIMITED EMPLOYEE AVAILABILITY DUE TO THE IMPACTS OF COVID-19. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND REMAIN COMMITTED TO DELIVERING THE HOLIDAYS TO YOU.
Why is anyone surprised? Bad case of amnesia?
Solution: Print an online picture of the purchased item and have a nice card for the gift recipient .... and tell them the package is in the mail .....

Everyone needs to have patience this year - good idea - print a picture and give it - people will understand. We are stressed enough during Covid - please just be kind and patient people! The post offices are stacked with packages! Practice Christmas kindness!

We were told this would happen ,why people do not understand ,is beyond me.

They know what's going on, but they look past that and can only see their own needs, wants, and demands. Immature, spoiled, childish behavior.

No delays yet in my area of Wisconsin. Fingers crossed.

@Tinkrbl44 We were warned well in advance. Stores have been asking since the end of October for everyone to ship early.
I received the last of my gifts two weeks ago. However, I have made purchases for myself that if I get them fine, and if I don't, it won't mean the difference of a present to hand someone or not.
Even without the constant advisory on the news, I think people assume the sales will be better closer to Christmas, so they wait. Fine for brick and mortar shopping, but that doesn't work when something has to ship cross country.

@Tinkrbl44 I have an Etsy shop and shipped the last of my holiday packages on 12/14. So far I still have 7 packages not yet delivered.
I have messaged my customers about the shipping delays and have suggested that if their package doesn't arrive on time to print out a picture of the photo that I sent them of their custom item.

@rms1954 I think it's a combination of what you said, and that people are hoping for last minute sales. However, I think I remember correctly that most stores were even having their Black Friday sales early to prevent the last minute rush. Everyone was warned well in advance, that's for sure.

It mystifies me. I read the complaints and I wonder if the person was off planet for a year. The delivery companies and USPS all warned us and enocurged us to send early and the warnings came in early October. People are shopping like crazy online, Covid 19 is raging throughout the nation and then there's winter weather. Today's storm will add to the delays so I hope people know that they shouldn't expect anything they bought in the last 2 weeks to arrive before Jan 1, even if Christmas delivery was promised.
