@ Moonchilde for sure others are thinking the same way you are....problems..I just can't take heat-and this past year and a half has been satanic for me-diabetes aside......my auto-immune tests are still sky high.....my right hand-especially my thumb joint, is swollen....AC is set to 69 @ night, fan blowing in addition...

I don't have diffuse pain-not fibro, but oh well, each day, another joint feels broken.

I'm sorry you're going through so much now.  I can't take heat either, I don't really sweat, so that's not good.  I hope you're getting some help for your auto immune problem.  Prednisone, maybe?

@rygimom, temperatures like that can be every bit as dangerous as flooding.....especially in areas where people don't have AC. The very young and old are at risk...temperatures like that can take down the healthiest of people.

There is probably going to be a heavy demand placed on electric services which is probably not able to really keep up because weather extremes in that area are virtually unknown.

Please keep us posted....and take care....be safe.

Highways and bridges aren't engineered in those parts for extreme heat expansion. No doubt, there will be reports of highways buckling.

In that heat, airlines are going to have to consider weight loads: expect slow downs for flights.....

Thanks for posting,

@Poodlepet2

You're right about that, too.  They think the electricity grid may fail, especially with so many fans going. I don't know how we'd make it if that happens.

I wonder how @Moonchilde is doing, and others?

@Noel7, plenty warm here at the house. We have things (drapes, etc) pretty shut until the sun goes behind the hill after 4 pm. All the ceiling fans going plus extras. I think niece's DH said our thermometer reads 100, weather says 95+, so I'll believe it. I need to get my camera out of the car, and my soda, which I'll be drinking faster. This is very rare for us along the coast. It was about 20 degrees cooler yesterday.

Carmel Valley is 104, even Pacific Grove is 97. Santa Cruz 108, Hollister 113!

Trying to do a little tidying/housecleaning but about 5 min/one task at a time :-(

We don't have a/c, and generally nothing electric happens at our house weekdays until after 8 pm, so we're no strain on the grid - but the areas all surrounding us, yes.

I'm glad to know you're OK @Moonchilde  My dermatologist says I have hardly any sweat glands, I really get hot and can't cool myself off.  I'm drinking a lot of some fancy water DD got for us, nagging DH to do the same.  We'll take very cool showers and start again.

I've always gotten heat exhaustion easily, @Noel7, throughout my life. I have a bad habit of not watching my hydration - trying to be much better about that. I don't sweat much either. And of course fair-skinned, fair-eyed, and somewhat auburn-haired (years ago, lol).

I aim to stay home during heat waves. Just going outside and being in the heat for short periods in between a/c can still knock the stuffin' outta me and I'm always tired in very hot weather. I don't even want alcohol, it makes me hotter & the heat is bad for my BP combined with alcohol.

@Noel7@ it's time for you to invest in some kind of air conditioning unit....you have few sweat glands left-your health is at risk....you are beyond needing it for comfort-totally

Look into Mitzubishi AC....ductless-doesn't violate codes-and considering the heat you are dealing with, medically necessary. Please investigate.

Hugs.

@Moonchilde I am not heat tolerant either.I also get very tired and lazy when I am too warm.My DH doesn't understand it because for him the hotter the better.I wonder if women are more affected by warm temperatures than men.

I used to soak my feet in ice water to stay cool before we had air conditioning,It really seems to help.

Oh, we did invest @Poodlepet2  We bought an expensive unit which sits on the back porch.  It turns out the installers can't get it in our fancy window(s) and I don't want to go through a big mess getting things torn up.  Many have historic homes here and none of us have AC.

Re: SF BAY AREA Heat Wave

[ Edited ]

I'm in San Diego this week and it's absolutely miserable here with the heat and humidity. I thought it might be better out in Coronado Island, but in some ways it was worse. I was really tempted to jump in the ocean with all of my clothes on.

Edited to add:The San Diego Symphony is playing a series of outdoor concerts with fireworks this weekend. I was tempted to go tonight, but now...nope.  My hotel has an outdoor bar on the roof and I'll just hope I can see the fireworks from there.

Re: SF BAY AREA Heat Wave

[ Edited ]

I totally lose my appetite in the heat. I "drink my meals" which might be something fruity, a smoothie, a milk shake or frappuccino. Sometimes fresh fruit cut up in a bowl, berries with yogurt, tuna salad & crackers. I remember in LA buying the large bowls of cut up watermelon and subsisting on it.

Great-niece's hubby's restaurant is doing a riff on this. Photos today of all sorts of fruit & salad things on ice for lunch. It looked good! Except it's 105 when I'd get there.

The fruit juice/smoothie type of thing is hard to resist in this weather, diabetic-unfriendly or not.

I'm glad I have plenty of Bai. Very refreshing, lower carb.

Ice cream, bananas, hot fudge. Froyo & fruit.

We're having company Sunday and I assume BBQ. Glad I don't have to spend time over the grill or stove.

@dex, I used to go sit in my car & turn the a/c on, or take a tepid/cool shower.

Our low today will be 65; two days ago, our high wasn't even that.

I'm down by the bay (in a hotel with a/c )and my weather app says it's 99. The news blurb on TV just said it's 107 inland. I think it's time to head for happy hour.
